Not so great. I went to this salon last week based on the better reviews it received and close to my home. I suppose I should have re-read the bad reviews. I was placed with an inexperienced person who did a lousy haircut and the color was so-so. She had to keep checking with someone on everything she did which made me nervous. I was not told she was new to doing hair, and the price was outrageous. I think I will stick with my regular person.

Unprofessionalism: This is nothing to do with a bad haircut or other service; moreover, an unfriendly staff and uncooperative management. Zaggat would rate this a 1 for service. If that.

I came in to this new location (near where I live in Hyde Park), on recommendation of my hairstylist in Manhattan, who was schooled in the Aveda style. He said Aveda colorists know how to highlight to flatter any cut, face or skin color. And he told me exactly what to ask for, in Avedaspeak, which I repeated to this so-called Aveda colorist - word for word. Well, my colorist was adept at distributing the highlights, and she put alot of work into each strategic placement. All good traits, except for one thing: the color was completely off! I asked for subtle brown, like expresso. She gave me brass blond. My hair looks cheap with these tacky bleach highlights. Then I find she may not have used Aveda Color, but Loreal, which this salon seems to specialize in (see other reviews) For my further troubles, I had to pay a hefty 3-digit price plus tip. Now I'm gradually fixing my own color courtesy of this shampoo-in color stuff I got at Walgreens, which is doing a better job at getting the color right at 9 bucks. Sigh. I don't think Level liked to listen to what I was telling them. Even when I saying it in their language.
Pros: NOTHING I CAN THINK OF
Cons: PARKING AND BAD HAIR SERVICES

I have only been here one time and I will not be going back. Although the atmosphere is nice, I received the worst haircut I have ever gotten. It is uneven, doesn't lay right and looks terrible. The only reason I am writing this review right now is because I'm on citysearch trying to find a new salon to correct this mess I have on my head.
Pros: Convenient to New Tampa and USF area
Cons: Bad haircuts

I am a bottle blonde with natural brown hair. It is not easy to color dark hair and make it look great. On advice from a friend, I went to Level and it was fabulous! Max made my dark locks beautiful and that same day 3 people stopped me to tell me my hair looked great. He was extremely thorough and took great care with my hair. On a side note, a lady beside me was raving to her stylist about her color when she was leaving. I don't know who the stylist was, but it was a lady. The people in the reception area were very nice and checkout was a breeze. I will definitely be back to see Max. I truly have never had someone color my hair with results like I had this time.
Pros: Max and the location
Cons: none

I see 2 people posted negative reviews. Do not let those reviews turn you off to this salon. I live in the Clearwater and drive an hour just get my hair done here....yes, the talent at this salon is that good. I've been going there for over a year and a half. The staff is always courteious, helpful and friendly. My stylist is amazing. People are shocked to hear my hair is highlighted and colored because they thought is was natural...that's a sign of a very talented colorist. I have never had a bad cut here either. If you communicate with your stylist you shouldn't have a problem getting the cut you want. I think the previous negative posts might of had problems communicating with their stylist at the time. As for the negative comments about another reviewers color job, I have not had that problem. I'm thinking that reviewer was VERY picky and maybe had unhealthy hair to begin with. There's only so much a good stylist or colorist can do...they aren't miracle workers. You can't come into a salon with a picture of your favorite celeb and expect to look exactly like that when you leave. I've also used the hair removal services and was very satisfied. Yes the price maybe a little more for some higher level stylists/colorists but if you leave feeling great and looking great....it's priceless! So if your debating trying this place out...give it try. They wil not disappoint you.
Pros: Relaxing setting, great colorist/stylists
Cons: Diffuicult getting into parking lot due to heavy traffic. Uncomfortable waiting area seats and not enought seats in the waiting area.

I've been going to Level Salon for several years and I wouldn't go anywhere else! I've seen several different stylists and have been very happy with each of them. The atmosphere is very calming, and they are always attentive. When I come in for color, they give a relaxing hand massage, and the best scalp massage ever! They do reminder calls, and make sure I can get in when I need to. There is a stylist for every price range, and the training program must be great because they are all wonderful. They offer facials, mani, pedi and all hair services. Definitely give this place a try!
Pros: staff, atmosphere, hours
Cons: they're only in north tampa!

I moved to Tampa a little over two years ago and tried a few other salons before finding Level. After my first experience I never went anywhere else. I have been to the salon probably 10 times for cut, color, highlights and have been very happy with the results. My stylist Nikki is AMAZING. My roommate and I nicknamed her gods gift to hair! I get compliments on my hair all the time & I always refer people to Level. The pricing is fair and the atmosphere is very relaxed. It's always a pleasant experience. If you are really picky about your hair like me and you expect a perfect job every time I would definitely recommend this salon.
Pros: Nikki! All the stylists are awesome!

I have been to many salons in the area and have never been "completely" happy with any of them, until I found Anthony at Level Salon. I had my hair done at a salon in New York and I loved the way they did it, but I knew I wouldn't be able to travel all that way just for my hair. So they referred me to Level salon, in a round about way. I have been there three times, so far, and I have had nothing but a positive experience. I went in with an idea of what I wanted, Anthony told me what he was going to do and he made it look the exactly the way I wanted it. Everyone there is extremely friendly and the atmosphere is very relaxing. I will continue to go to Anthony at Level Salon. The prices are very reasonable. Thank you Very Much for my beautiful hair! And thank you very much for the overall experience!
Pros: Anthony! awesome atmosphere! friendly staff! Everything!
Cons: none

I too am new to the Tampa area and after having gone to a few places around the USF area and downtown, I finally decided to try out this salon because it uses Aveda products. It was really weird- it seems as though the stylist had only been trained in a certain style of haircut because no matter what I requested, I always ended up getting the same thing. She likes to do alot of the razored-look and ended up creating a style that I think is too severe and "sculpted" whereas I like my hair to fall softly and naturally. I don't know if this is the Aveda institute training or what but I didn't care for it. I had color done several times and each time it was not what I wanted. In one instance it was like $200 and the color came out uneven and splotchy. For that much money, the color should at least be even. I had to get another box of hair dye at the grocery store and fix it myself when the color-depositing conditioner they reccomended did not even it out. At a salon, it should be right the first time. If not, they should bend over backwards to fix it, not tell you to do it yourself with another product. I have had better results coloring my hair at home. I wish I had not made the decision to get color at this salon. Be warned-- your hair color will look differnt in the salon than under lights at home and you may not be pleased. I hate to say this, but I question the quality of Aveda haircolor. It never turned out nice.
Pros: usf area, so it's convenient, laid-back atmosphere, not snooty
Cons: hard to get out of parking lot because on busy corner, might not get hair you want
