best sushi in Tampa, hands down
by zoisite
I have had sushi at some of the best restaurants in Vancouver BC and Japan, and this place is right up with them. First off, it is a 100% authentic JAPANESE restaurant, not Chinese/Japanese -- I don't know where the previous reviewer got this from, as the owners and entire menu are Japanese (I spoke Japanese with them, so I know for sure!). All the fish I have ever had here has been impeccably fresh, and the portionsare incredibly generous. Their unagi is hands-down the best I have ever had... Slightly char-grilled and melt in your mouth. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough!
- Pros: amazing quality and prices
- Cons: location is a bit out of the way
There is No Better Sushi in Tampa
by 1Pattogo
I have been going here for 4 years. I have eaten at many, many different sushi restaurants, and there is no comparison. This is by far the best in Tampa. Hope you give it a chance - it will be a treat!
- Cons: None
Do not go in there!!!!!!

This is Chinese-Japanese restaurant. This is not Japanese restaurant. It is just simply disgrace. They should change the name. Food was trrible and the service was even worse. Do not go in there!!!!
Horrible
by LucieO88
Horrible sushi. Although the service was prompt, the sushi itself was not fresh and later caused unpleasant after effects (food p0isoning). I highly do not recommend Ichiban if you consider yourself a sushi lover, or if you don't like feeling sick for hours!
- Pros: Prompt service
- Cons: p0isoned sushi, horrible neighborhood
Excelent sushi!
by AlexanderM
I have eaten at many top notch sushi restaurants around the world (New York, London, Paris, Cape Town), except for Japan, granted these restaurants had great ambiance and good service, but they were really over priced. When it comes to flavor and quality Ichiban is still my favorite. There are a few down sides yes, sometimes service can be slow, however very friendly, mostly on weekends because the place is always busy (testament to the great food, people who know what is good are willing to wait), and the ambiance is not fantastic being in a small strip mall it is average when it comes to interior decor. I always get sushi when I go to Ichiban, I can not attest for most of the other dishes. My favorites are: the dinner sashimi special, their tempura rols are the best, and the TNT muscles as an apetiser great, they also have good miso soup (not salty like most miso soup can be). Overall at Ichiban the quality to price ration is excelent.
- Pros: Shushi, Sashimi, ingenuity with rolls
- Cons: Slow at times, average ambiance.
Tampa Sushi
by beatmeoutofme
I moved to Tampa from NY about a year ago with my girlfriend and as soon as we got here we went looking for a nice Japaneses restaurant. When we find Ichiban we were very surprised at how good it was. After eating at several Japanese restaurants in the area I have to say Ichiban is by far the best one. They are always busy and but usually have ample seating available. The prices are very reasonable when compared to others in the area. My favorite Sushi roll is the Alaskan. The best texture I have ever had with sushi. The servers are very sweet and helpful. I recommend this restaurant to anyone needing a sushi fix.
- Pros: Good price, Yummy Sushi, Yummy food all around
- Cons: Only a few booths
Absolutely the best.

Best sushi and sashimi in Tampa. Fresh, beautifully garnished, right temperature, generous servings and a team of waitresses that give you personal attention. I've been going there for over 15 years and have yet to find a better place.
Good sushi
by ecutrainer
My partner and I were regulars at shiso sushi, which we considered the best sushi in Tampa, but they have unfortunately closed. We wanted a place close to Seminole Heights and GOOD. We were very happy to find Ichiban. Great rolls and very friendly service.
- Pros: Fast and friendly service, great rolls
the sashimi is quite tasty. it melts in my mouth.

ichiban is my favorite when i want sashimi, sushi rolls, or tempura. first, the sashimi appetizer is truly delicious. please ask for the vegetable tempura when dining with a guest who is unfamiliar with japanese cuisine. your adventurous guest will begin to see the joy in this type of food. next, crunchy baked salmon with eel sauce is phenomenal. everyone loves this one. even the newbies to sushi. of course, as others have written, the variety of rolls: spider, volcano, cowboy, yuzan, are all quite yummy. totally agree. what i haven't heard mentioned in any of the reviews, and surprised by(maybe you just didn't know), is the TNT mussels! order early. takes awhile to prepare.
- Pros: dining there is quite relaxing and the staff is personable. very important to me.
- Cons: i always have to call ahead to reserve a booth. i think their tables aren't as relaxing.
best sushi in tampa
by faeriemary
ichiban has to be one of the most delicious sushi spots in tampa. for those who complain of slow service, maybe they should consider the fact that raw fish is being prepared for them in the safest and freshest way possible. any wait that might possibly be experienced will only produce an end result of a mouth-watering, savory plate of fresh sushi. the service is excellent -- always prompt seating and the servers are so considerate and friendly. very relaxed and quiet atmosphere!! great for a place to chill and socialize. my favorites are the mexican roll, the crunchy tuna roll, the bagel tempura roll, and the hijiki roll. also, try the delicious tempura cheesecake! it's absolutley phenomenal!
- Pros: nice ambient atmosphere, very affordable
