Reap wholesome goodness at Nature's Harvest--and try the cookies, too.

The Scene
There's only one negative to lunching at this excellent health food emporium: When the lunch hour is over, it's hard to pry yourself away from the books, exotic flavors of natural toothpaste, and all the other goodies this health-food store and restaurant offers. Nature's Harvest is crammed with interesting items: herbal teas and remedies, gourmet whole-wheat pasta, great bins of nuts and candy and oatmeal, coolers of beautiful organic vegetables. Dining is only half the fun--but what a half.

The Food
At the rear of the store, you'll find a few tables, one of the city's most complete salad bars, and a deli with a delightful menu of cold dishes and wraps, hot foods and baked goods, either for dining in or take-out. The special of the day tends to be brown rice or whole wheat pasta and a couple of vegetable combinations; the soup is inevitably something rich, thick and meatless. At Nature's Harvest bakery, the oatmeal and peanut butter cookies pass a stringent taste test.

THE VEGAN BEST

Nature's Harvest cafe is our very favorite place to eat. As vegans, my husband Cal and I have an extremely limited number of options when it comes to eating out. Nature's Harvest always has at least one delicious, mouth-watering entree that we can sit and eat in a cozy, friendly atmosphere. The grocery store is also our favorite!
