I needed my head gasket repaired on my 2001 grand prix. My car overheated and it blew its a common problem with these cars. When I called to get an estimate, he said he doesnt know how much it would cost they would have to see what the problem is but he thinks it will cost me 1000$+! I went to a different mechanic shop and they charged me 400$ for the part and labor. Im glad I didnt go here.

Hey they did the best they could over the phone, without seeing the vehicle and determing the total problem I woul dhave also guessed at $1,000.00 on the high end to fix the problem. Sometimes it's an easy fix and other times the heads have to be milled if they warp.

If he did not see the car then the price was a educated high end guess based upon worst case repair. I woul dhave given the same answer if I could not have seen the car and pulled the heads to see if they needed to be milled as heat can warp the heads.
