New owner needs a lesson in customer service

Barnicles changed hands and the new owner treats people like dirt, he must be a New Yorker . What was once a a great place to go with friends has become an experience worse than a trip to the dentist.

Football, Football, Football

Good food, good service, EVERY game imaginable on a million TVs, priced right, crowded during games (that's a good thing). If the guys behind the bar were hot girls, this place would be heaven on SAT/SUN! And I don't even have a stake in the place! Cater to Gators!

  • Pros: TVs, food
  • Cons: Parking when its crowded

Very rude!

by bunnychic at Citysearch

We used to love going to Barnacles, but haven't been in a couple years since we moved to TX. We were in for a visit this past week, and we not impressed! The place was almost completely deserted - but, this was not what really turned us off. After we spent over a $100 on food, beverages, games, etc..., we were eating, playing a game of pool, and enjoying the company of our friends in a back corner of the joint when we were very matter of factly, without any explanation, asked to leave at 12:35 pm. Everyone with us knew the place has always closed at 1:00, so we asked to see the manager. The manager came over yelling "who said we closed at 1:00? - I'm the manager and we're closing in 10 minutes, so wrap it up and get out". We explained that we were there from out of town, and asked if we could play one more game and finish our food/beer. After he again told us to finish the game and "get out", we responded with a very calm "yes sir, have a nice night, we won't ever be back". The manager then turned to us, pointed to the door and told us to "forget about the game, get the F*** out now!" The bouncer then proceded to escort us out and stand guard at the door until we drove away, all the while making rude and unnecessary statements. We were treated like we were out of hand loiterers when we were the complete opposite. If business was so bad that they needed to close 15 minutes early, they could have gone about asking us to leave in a hundred nicer ways. I now know why the place was so empty!

  • Pros: Good food, cheap booze, lot's of pool tables and TV's
  • Cons: Rude and unprofessional manager/staff, empty

Awesome food! Dog friendly...questionable?

by aphio73 at Citysearch

I've been a loyal customer for years at Barnacles because they have awesome food. I've eaten at the outdoor area with my dog three times before. The first time I actually called ahead of time before going there to see if it was okay to have my dog with me if I ate in the outdoor area. The receptionist checked with the manager at the time and said that it was okay. The last time I ate there with my dog was actually this past Sunday. I brought my dog again with me when I went to Barnacles yesterday. The manager went to me and told me I cannot eat there with my dog. I told him that I've eaten there with my dog on three other occasions. He said that the managers during those days don't know what they are doing. He said that there is some kind of health issue that prohibits customers from having a dog at a food establishment even if it was outdoors. I knew that that was not true. There are many outdoor restaurants around Tampa that are dog friendly. The only health issue I see is if a waiter or waitress decides to pet the dog and later handles the food without washing his or her hands. But as far as I'm concern, that is not the customer's problem. That would be the restaurant's problem for not letting their employees know what they should or should not do. Not even the awesome food was going to let me leave my dog in the car especially when it was about 90 degrees. So I decided to just leave without making a scene. As I was walking to my car in the parking lot, an employee chased me down and apologized. He said that there was something passed recently that said that customers CAN eat at outdoor restaurants with their dogs. He said that the manager was not aware of this. He told me that if I was still interested, I can go ahead and eat there. I probably may have reconsidered if the manager was the one who chased me down and apologized instead of someone else apologizing for him. So I just left and probably would never return...with or without my dog.

This chameleon of a bar caters to families and sports fans first, then turns into a singles scene later.

by Contributor at Citysearch

The Scene
Families and the sports-minded crowd come first before the place morphs into a truck-driving (read country boys), testosterone-heavy singles-fest. A game room acts as a buffer between the bar and the pool hall. While TVs encompass the entire perimeter side-by-side, it's tough to focus on one event and sometimes hard to hear. Your best bet is a seat at the center bar, a spot near the second big bar or a table on the dance floor area.

The Draw
Oyster bar for lunch, sports bar (with more than 450 TVs, including a dozen big screens in the center) in the evening and dance club after 10pm. The food is typical sports bar fare, but shy away from the burgers in favor of the seafood and daily specials. There's also a large selection of brews.
