A great seafood restaurant. We just had our second visit there, and the food was excellent. The calamari was great. The meal progressed some what slow, but that was okay. We met friends for dinner, so we were talking and catching up, so the slow pace was great for us.
Servers were very attentive and the food was good. I had the trout with the crab topping. I love trout and this was one of the best. My wife had a chicken dish, and it has 4 pieces of chicken breast. Mitchell's has become an annual meeting place for my wife and our friends when we come to Tampa/St. Pete.
Nice Night on the Town.
Attached to a mall (Sears, JCpenney etc). Interior was elegan and there was a paino/player. We sat outside-- bad idea if you don't like smoke-- 4 people's smoke assaulted us thru dinner. Expecting 'upscale casual,' as per the restaurant's own confession, we dressed up a bit, only to find some people were allowed in with jeans.
The patio was ok but there were no cuhions on the chairs. A flower box railing comes up to eye level so you cant really see much outside or people watch.
Service was nice but seemed a bit artificial in personality, knew the right things to say "everything here is good!" He came around just enought to check on us and drinks were refilled well.
The bread was great, warm sourdough, w/ good butter on the side. 3 small peices.
Appetizer was a spinach artichoke dip which was great, with just enough of a pepper kick. Comes with 'seasoned crispy things' but not nearly enough of them to finish off the dip.
I had the lemon pepper chicken (the ONLY non-fish/seafood entity on the menu) which was juicy and well marianated, sides of mashed potatoes-- to die for, and green beans-- best I've ever had, perfect crunch.
He had the Alaskan king crab which he said were scrupmtious and perfectly prepared. His baked potato was a bit wanting but the asparagus was cooked to THE perfect crunch.
Desert was an entirely different story (hence no 5 stars). The carrot cake was dry as a bone (all 10 layers of it), obviously not made the same day. It had NO icing within the 10 layers and a skimpy watered down sugary icing on top. The icing is the best part of carrot cake, as we all know, it has to be thick and fluffy and a tad bit tart. Total miss, and at $8, depressing.
The key lime pie was entirely too tart (and I love tart!); it hurt to eat... so we didn't.
Total for 2 of us: 1 app, 2 sodas, 2 entrees (the crab was 29 per pound, we got 1 pound), 2 desserts (woe!) was abt $100 pretax.
Would go there again but find somewhere else for dessert!
