The only bar we ever needed.
When I moved down to Tampa, I didn't know a single person. That meant I didn't know where to go for a good drink. Coming from a long line of Scottish and Irish social drinkers, that was a particular affront to my heritage. One day, after a bad day for work, I randomly pulled into this friendly little place stuffed back between a Denny's and a strip mall on Brandon. I can't gush enough about the wonderful food, the friendly and accommodating staff and the owner, who is always there with a handshake and a few laughs. And, how amazed was I when my wife joined me down here and brought our little miniature dachshund... their brand new porch is dog friendly!
A word on the food: these guys have the most perfect corned beef and cabbage, in portions large enough to fill *any* appetite. Come for lunch, too, where you can enjoy a beer-battered fish sandwich that my parents drive seven hours to eat (I guess they come to see me, too; my dad is pretty fanatical about this place).
A word on the booze: Never have I ever been to an Irish pub stateside that can pour a Guinness properly. These folks do it and they do it with aplomb.
To sum up: O'Toole's is, literally, the only bar my wife and I need. Sure, the crowd might be a little older than we are, but that's fine. We're not going out to hook up or to dance, just to enjoy a nice dinner, with cool, contemporary Irish bands playing in a place we're comfortable.
Tuesday Night Blues Night. New on O'Toole's calendar is Tuesday Night Blues Night (8:30 to close) - it is an open mic night that features a different local blues artist each week with Tommy Bell and the Bellcasters at the lead. This is a wonderful setting to be compared to a downtown Boston Irish Pub - tin ceilings, mahogany trim and the authentic Irish decore enhances the Blues. Come hungry, not watching calories, our group starting meeting early to eat together and when the conversation consists of mmmmm, mmmmm, mmmmm, I think that says it all. Easy to find on 60 between Kings and Parsons on the south side. Come join us and the wonderful staff Nicole at the bar and Patrick on the floor.
Great food, Great atmosphere, Great service!. A friend of mine and I came into Tampa from Atlanta for the weekend. After a rough start to our trip and getting in town a bit later than I anticipated, we were looking for a place that not only served food but had a little something else to offer. We decided to head down Brandon Blvd to see what was around and worse case we would end up at one of the many chain restaurants along the way. We passed by O'Tooles and thought what the hay we'll give it a try. We were pleasently surprised to find out that they had a live musician. Our server was very attentive and very personable. The food was good and they had a wide variety of dishes they offered. Not only did they serve traditional Irish food but had stuff on their menu that would appeal to just about anyone. A must when visiting the Tampa area!
Amazing atmosphere, cold imports on draft and great food!!!. You wouldnt think so much looking at the outside... but get yourself in the door and the place is amazing. The owners really did it up right, from the mahogany bar to the details on the walls. Ireland... I'm there. You have to try the Irish Nachos and visit Patrick behind the bar. Friends of mine swear by the burgers, but the Irish fare is for me.
