Hook's Sushi is one of those extraordinary local restaurants here in sunny St. Pete, FL where the vibe is cool and relaxed, the service is always warm and friendly, and best of all the food is just delicious. When MY friends visit from NYC, LA, Europe....guess when I take them for Sushi...
Best Sushi. The sushi is some of the best I've had. I normally get the TST which is cooked with Tempura and it is not heavy at all. When I have had their raw sushi it was very fresh. I have actually sat in front of the sushi bar and nothing looks frozen and sometimes they give out free samples if you sit there. I would definatly recomend this to everyone!
Terrible Service!!. First time customer, the sushi was excellent, but the service was horrible. After waiting about 30 minutes to get a table (after being told the wait was 20 minutes) we had to request our server come to take our order. We were told our server was "busy" so someone else took our order. Someone else brought it and refilled our drinks, our server was hardly around. I felt very unwelcomed and probably won't go back. I can find comparable sushi elsewhere and I can find better service at my neighborhood dry cleaner!!
Disappointed too often. Have tried this restaurant on 4 separate occassions. Disappointed each time. The sushi is average or a little above but the service is terrible. Once your server arrives (on the last visit after waiting for over 10 minutes for someone to at least get our drink order we left) expect to see them a maximum of 3 more times ( 1-bring drink, 2-bring food, 3- bring check). Each of the 3 times we did stay to eat our drinks were empty by the time the meal arrived and never refilled, which seems to be the same circumstances as the other diners around you. Nor do they check to be certain you are happy with your meal or need anything further. As this restaurant is the closest "casual" sushi to home I gave them more chances than I normally would. I have decided to drive a little further from now on.
Cheap quality sushi for too much $$. The sushi tasted as though it was a lesser quality cut and previously frozen, we even saw the chef/owner cut into a seemingly frozen slab and serve it to a customer. The tempura batter was not the traditional light type, but very heavy like you'd find in american restaurants on onion rings. Overall, I was very disappointed.
