THANK GOODNESS, IT HAS FINALLY CLOSED DOWN! – A new restaurant called Lisa's has taken it's place and it a great improvement over the previous owner.
NEVER GO TO GRECKO GRILL – We were offered pita bread first, with dip. The pita was $6. Each saucer of dip was $8.95. He stated 'his mom' made the best sangria. He mixes it like Koolaid and it was $7.50 a glass. We had overpriced food and the check looked illegal to me.
He made a little boy cry in the group near us and continued to harass this little 6 year old so much that my wife had to restrain me from getting up and throttling him. I was so upset.
The guy is a psycho and anyone that I know of that is going to Madeira Beach will be warned about this place and this jerk. Stay on the opposite side of the street. He even harassed people on the sidewalk.
I knew we should have walked on by when we saw it was empty.
A CRIME TO EAT THERE – We found a place to eat on a crowded Sat. night...That should have been a warning there that the place was empty- we ordered three ice waters- the SON ( SOB more like it) brought out three opened warm bottled waters with ice in glasses. I told him that was not cool to bring that out without telling the customers they have to pay for water! (cost $6)- Why I did not walk out then I don't know- how stupid!
Ordered a lamb rib appetizer for $14 came with three teeny ribs with a big lump of rice!
Our bill was $60 but he added a $20 tip on there and swiped my credit card for the full amount...I should have called the police. He has his 75 year old mother slaving away back in the kitchen... this guy is a real NUT TIME BOMB- He yells at us where are you from? And tells us that the Canadians come in there and drink too much tap water for free.... He tells us the gratuity thing is on the menu...it is - on a big extensive menu in SMALL print...Hello St. Pete...when is someone going to do something to this guy??? He is such a punk I bet he is in the witness protection program-----
Violation of health codes in every way!!!!!!! – I had family in from out of town. We went there for lunch. The bill was outrageous. They charged a dollar a piece for all carry out containers. Tacked on a bunch of extra charges ( has to be illegal somehow). Not to mention the son was very rude. Smoking inside the place. He was also licking his fingers as he was getting our food. I mentioned something to him about licking his fingers and touching our food so he then yelled at me and said i scratched my *ss to and then he did. He then went on to fix our food and refused to give our money back. He also said because i was not born in Florida i was a transplant and needed to go back to where i came from. What a way to keep customers happy. Very rude and Disgusting man.
Good Food But Con Man Waiter – My mom and I went there one evening for a light, late dinner. 30 minutes later, we left with a $105.00 tab. To be honest, I didn't keep a copy of the check. Instead, I just paid like an idiot and left in disgust. But be warned...I figure the most the bill should have been was $50.00. I think he included extra food and/or hidden charges. BUt we were the only two people there at the restaurant, so I can't imagine the problem was an honest mistake.
Watch out for the bill – On Feb 12 2009, my wife and I, along with another couple, went to this restaurant. The service was unbelievably poor and the waiter was one of the most self important people I have ever seen. The food was marginal at best.
Determined to show my dissatisfaction with the whole experience and especially the service, I added only a 10% tip to the bill. I have not tipped less than 18% in, literally, years.
On the way home we started to question how four $13 meals and two $2 drinks came to $76 because 4*13 = 52 plus 2*2 = 4 and added together that equals $56. But the bill had been such hen scratching that it was illegible and we merely paid the $76 amount shown.
Going back to the restaurant the next day, we were told that the menu indicates that the bill is subject to an 18% surcharge.
In other words this unbearable waiter not only got an 18 plus percent tip, he also got the 10% I left.
Beware of this place!!!
The Son is a problem there, the Mom's cooking is good! – Yes, I had the expensive salad as well. I agree, the hummus is awfully garlic. The Son is rude as all hell, and charges you 18% gratuity for 2 people! I wonder if this is legal??
Not worth the time, or the price... – With dinner prices for most meals starting around $19.00 and ranging up to $24.00 and beyond(salads available starting for around $8.00), I was expecting a lot more than I got in terms of service.
The hummus ($7.95 + $1.95 for extra pita) was OK -- too much garlic for my taste and a bit oily. I've had comparable from the grocery store.
A horiatiki salad (called something like a villagers salad on their menu) $7.95, featured the least salty feta cheese I've ever tasted -- in fact, I was reminded of dry cottage cheese by the flavor. The Greek dressing was oil and a little bit of vinegar with some very nice, fresh herbs. Overall, I've had comparable from Albertson's deli for $5.99/pound.
My dinner companion had the philly cheese sandwich (off of the lunch menu, which required a $2.00 "up charge" since it was dinner time). It was adequate, but not really worth the revised total of $10.95.
However, the worst part was the scruffily dressed son of the owner. He came out of the kitchen, turned up the volume to the baseball game on the television at the bar, turned up all the lights, and then walked outside to smoke. His demeanor and appearance were not what one would expect from a restaurant with pretensions to high-class.
The food was barely adequate, but not worth the price, and the atmosphere was decidedly at odds with the reality.
Terrible – All we have to say is it was an awful experience, food was way over priced and just BAD! I couldn't believe the price of a salad is 21.99, it is such a rip off!
Worthwhile stop! – My husband and I were pleased to have found this little gem on our most recent trip to the gulf coast. The grouper Athenian and ribeye were fantastic and kudos to the marinade the steak had. The only disappointment was not having room for dessert. We have already recommended it and will return there ourselves. While parking was not easy (be prepared to park in the adjacent public lot) the $1/hour cost is worth it.
