Great Tex-mex, family owned and Good Food. I have been eating in Carmelita's since they opened back in 83 at the St. Pete location on Park. This location is closer to my home and parking and access easier for me than some of the other locations.

The owners of this branch were at the original store when it opened. This is their place now.

Mexican food is interpretation. You couldn't serve some of the dish's "Made In Mexico" here for the American palate and you couldn't serve some of the hotter dish's to kids and this is a family place.

They are more Tex-mex in style, good sized portions and cooked to order and reasonably priced. Yes, the chips are FREE, the salsa is good and they have a little bowl of hot green salsa sometimes next to it that will make a blowtorch of your esophagus. Ask for it, if It's your taste, it's hot, and thats why it's served separate, Keep it from the kids.

I lived in Mexico, for purists, there are other Mexican styles and interpretations. There are other places, here in Largo area and I'm comfortable at Carmelita's. I tried some of the others, several went south for the winter and did not return. Like Tia's.

Even in Mexico, I have seen rural differences in style and taste. Thats true of Italy and Japan. Here we have Mex-Mex, Tex-Mex and Fake Mex but I found Carmelita's a consistent nice place to eat and it didn't send me to Pepto Bismol land.

Terrible Food!. This food is very americanized, and if that is what you like then you shall enjoy it. I thought that the music was too loud and annoying. The food was terrible, chips and salsa you pay for, and it has no flavor. All in all go to Los Mariachis.
