I've been coloring my own hair at home for years, but yesterday when I did it something went terribly wrong. When I rinsed out the hair color, my beautiful blonde locks had turned a bluish silver in huge patches all over. Knowing that I couldn't correct the situation I frantically search the web for a salon that was nearby and was still open to make appointments. I found Serenity Salon & Spa on Montague in the Westchase area. I called was able to make an appointment for the next day.
I arrived early for my appointment. The receptionists were friendly and the salon itself was clean and tidy. While not a "posh" place, it was still several steps up from a chain type hair salon. Jose was to be my colorist. We talked at length about what I did to my hair to ensure that anything he did won't cause any additional damage. After three hours and three different color correction processes, I was back to blonde! Jose then talked to me about my style and what I was trying to accomplish.. I decided to add a Keratin treatment, since my hair had been through so much. I was surprised to see that when I checked out he had only charged me for the Keratin. I asked to make sure that there was no mistake. He said he hoped that I liked my hair and the color enough to come back. I love, love, love my hair. I will definitely be back.
What a BORE!!!! I want an experience to go with my $300!
This salon may be great for a person who doesn't have a lot of standards. I followed Ernesto from Verdecia Salon to Serenity Salon. I have been his client for about 3 years. I was told he is the manager at Serenity .
Let me preface this review by stating that my experience with the salon has never been professional or courteous. Aside from the incidents listed, I will say that I was never offered a drink during a 2 hour visit, never offered a magazine while sitting under the dryer listening to all the staff gossip with each other, and my stylist was more into speaking with the staff instead of his client.
ENVIRONMENT: Each experience was not only boring, but also very confined in a small space. The stylist chair, washing bowl & dome dryer were all in a 10 foot space together.
First Incident: After 3 loyal years of patronage, I arrived a couple minutes late for my appointment, (not 15). I walk in and Ernesto is standing at the counter with the two receptionists. The only thing he says to me is, "You're Late". How unappreciative.
Second Incident: I call to reschedule the apt due to a doctor visit (maternity checkup) I was presently at that was running over. The receptionist said to me in a sarcastic tone, "And, you're calling now?" They are lucky I had the courtesy to call at all, my baby's health is priority over a hairdo!
Third incident, the salon called the day before to confirm my appointment the next day for a cut, highlight, wash, blowout & style. I confirmed. I show up on time, Ernesto asks me if I want a touch up and proceeds to paint a deep dark brown all over my roots and my face! I have low lights and high lights in my hair. When he was finished I looked like I needed my hair done, as if my roots grew out for 3 months. And my face had a halo of brown stain down to the middle of my forehead. He told me that if I look in the magazines, I will notice it is in style right now. Not for me! And I didn't ask for that! He tells me he knows I don't like that look and suggested I come back on Monday to have it fixed. He commences to blow out my hair. I mentioned to him that "he totally forgot to cut my hair too!" That's his job and he forgot to do it! He said he will do that on monday as well. When I get to the counter to check out and reschedule, he tells me to pay for everything and that way on Monday, it will be free, then he heads to the back. How is paying for a haircut he forgot and the blotch job on my color getting anything for free? AND I have to take time out of another day, drive back and be bored out of my mind for several more hours on Monday? I asked the receptionist to tell Ernesto I will pay for the services when he fixes everything. She asked me to wait for him. I waited about 10 minutes for him to come speak with me. He never did. He never called when I didn't show up on Monday, and he never called on any of the other incidents or comments my husband made about his slacking in customer service and professionalism. Needless to say, he has lost 2 loyal 3-year customers. We have moved on.
THINGS THIS SALON COULD IMPROVE:
Recommend a product when the client checks out, Be consistent with every client, not just random clients and offer a drink of water or wine when we check in. I was pregnant, spent an average of 2 -3 hours in the salon and about $250 - $300 on my visits and NEVER was offered drink. Offer some reading material. Offer WiFI! With No phone signal, No wifi and No reading material, one can imagine how dead boring it is in the salon. Change their attitude when speaking with clients on the phone. After all, it is our money paying your salary.

Beautiful and great place to go! – I've been going to Serenity Salon and Spa for about a year. I have never had a bad experience and have tried several stylists. They are higher priced than some competitors, but with the quality of work, cleanliness, and staff, I feel it's worth it! Parking can sometimes be tricky, but it's simply limited, not a turnoff to the salon itself. Overall, I would highly recommend this salon.
Serenity Salon – Are you kidding????? I've been going to Serenity since it opened and have also received several Brazilian waxes and I have nothing but good things to say about the girls that work there. I can say that the waiting area is a little cramped, etc... but overall I've never had a bad experience there. I've also been to several salons and spas across the country and I think they are right up there with the best of them. Well, we all have opinions, but I definitely give them a great rating.
DON'T DO IT!!! – What a horrible exprience! If you're thinking about getting a Brazilian or getting highlights DO NOT go to Serenity Spa. I have been waxed before at both Bliss Spa and J Sisters in NY and I have never been tortured like that. They don't use hard wax and the girl repeatedly went over the same area again and again-can you say skin loss and rash???? Not to mention I got highlights that I had to get fixed the next day because sections were left orange!!
