Tips for Bavarian House Restaurant

Don't Expect Friendliness. If you have a coupon (like from resaurantcom) expect the owner to try to find an excuse to not honor it.

I am of German & Austrian descent, & I have been to Germany. I have eaten at many German Restauarants, & my grandparents were both from Austria. In addition, I was in the restaurant business for many years. Therefore, I know what good German food is, & I have had much better.

I am also usually very forgiving when it comes to an imperfect dining experience. So, when I take the time to write a restaurant review, I either thoroughly enjoyed my experience, or I had very bad experience. Unfortunately my night at The Bavarian House was the latter, not the former.

When we walked in the door we felt unwelcome. The server/hostess seemed to not want to be there.

The server seemed to have a bad attitude for some reason. I described spaetzl to my Latin wife as something similar to small dumpling pieces. The server seemd to want to argue, saying it was a noodle.

Then later I ordered a Paulaner beer. She brought me a Paulaner wheat beer when I did not want the wheat beer. I wanted the standard pilsner. It seemed to tick her off that asked her to replace the wheat beer with the pilsner that I wanted.

Later still when we were finished with our dinners, I asked for a to-go box for my wife's left-over schnitzel. She didn't take care of this right away. So when she came to pick up my wife's plate, my sister reiterated the need for a box. The server annoyedly said "I know!"

Then when dessert was served I told the server that I had a restaurantcom coupon. She immediately said that they might not be able to honor it since I didn't give it to her before ordering.

Now techinically I found out that this is correct. But as I said, I was in the restaurant business for many years, & the reason you do promotions such as restaurantcom is to get new people to try the restaurant.

I told the server that we drove 40 miles one way to try this restaurant that we found on restaurantcom. If the owner would not honor our coupon, we would not be back. The server left, came back and said that our coupon expired. Therefore, they could not honor it. I told her that I called restaurantcom before coming to the restaurant, & they said there is no longer an experiation, and that it is sill good.

She left and returned again & she said that restaurantcom does not dictate the terms of the coupons, & that they still would not honor it.

By this time the server is acting a little bit sweeter than earlier. No doubt because now she is geting worried about her tip. Even though she is a terrible server, I still gave her a decent tip. She would have gotten more had she been a better server & had she been a bit friendlier.

However, I just would like to say that we drove 40 miles, spent over $120 in this restaurant and by not honoring our coupon, I feel like the owner stole $25 from me. DON'T GO!! The food & service are sub par!

only with reservation. I didn't know that a reservation was needed. Since I didn,t had one I was not allowed to stay. The restaurant was at the time, 5:45 pm, empty. Also others, who came in later, where send away for the same reason. At least they could have offered a reservation for a later time.

Real authenthic. I live in Ft. Myers, but this is the best German Restaurant at the West Coast.

Everything is homemade, great taste, like cooked from my German grandma.

I'll be back as soon as possible.

The absolute worst - fraud alert. Slow service. Cold food. Not even close to authentic. Such a shame. When will Pinellas ever get a bavarian provider.
