what a Ja**off !!! – So the wife likes the food and I can walk down and pick up dinner at the same time. Perfect situation if it weren't for the Jac***f that owns the place.

Always abrasive, rude, etc.

Tonight I pull in.... to surprise for the wife.

Order $28+ of food (family combo) and pull out a $50 bill.

Well nice lady taking my order has no problem with it. But Jac**ff owner does.

Asks me if I have anything smaller. I say no (only a $10 bill besides that).

Tells me "I can"t take your $50 - and don't want to take it in the future." - I explained that's all I had - oh well.... i reply - "give me my cash back and i"ll go to Jimbo"s".

Well.... they took my money when I said that. but have to agree... great food....but owner is rude, abrasive and should not be in the front of the house.

High Quality Ribs Real Pit Smoked – Very meaty ribs with tips on. Smoked in a real pit and cooked just right leaving just the right amount of crust and fat on them. Best in Tampa??? Well at the very least, it is another good rib joint. Give them a try. The 3 bone rib sandwich is $6.25 plus tax.

Will it be as good as I remembered??? – I moved away from Tampa around 5 years ago to Washington state which is an area of totally different food choices including the LACK of good barbeque. I often would tell my wife how much I missed Uncle Rodney's Rib House and especially the pulled pork. I just arrived back to Tampa and the entire drive down which took 4 days... I was encountering a watering mouth as I would think about Uncle Rodney's pulled pork.

Obviously also remembering other places I would go back to after periods of time to find that the food was not as good as I remembered. So this kind of bummed me out.

I arrived to Tampa this morning and Uncle Rodney's was the first meal I had back in Tampa. IT WAS EVEN BETTER THAN I REMEMBERED! I ordered the pulled pork platter with baked beans and slaw and of course iced tea (which also sucks up in the northwest). OMG! It was so good. I was an idiot to not get a platter to go! There is always tomorrow though.

I called my wife in Washington and told her how good it was. She replied with "Well... we ate tuna fish sandwiches for dinner". OF COURSE I had to reply with "Oh... I'm sorry" :) If you haven't stopped by Uncle Rodney's... treat yourself. YOU DESERVE the great food.

Best BBQ since Dreamland went corporate – My husband works at MacDill AFB in Tampa but our main home is on the east coast of FL. Since he started working here I come over on weekends and we always get BBQ at Uncle Rodney's. Dreamland in Tuscaloosa and Daddy Bruce's in Denver were our favorites but Daddy Bruce and "Big Daddy" died and we thought great BBQ was dead until we found Uncle Rodney's. We love the ribs and sausage, but haven't had anything we didn't enjoy. Real wood BBQ, not propane or gas. I don't care for baked beans as a rule, but love Uncle Rodney's and the rest of my family likes any baked beans but craves Uncle Rodney's. His potato salad is like Mama makes and the slaw is just as good. It is everything BBQ should be. Picnic tables on a screened porch. No funky decorations that try too hard to be "country". Just a clean little neighborhood joint that is a refreshing break from too cute chain restaurants.

If my husband retires and no longer has a little apartment in (Ballest Point) Tampa we will drive two hours to come over for his down home REAL BBQ. Other posts trashing Uncle Rodney's must be from people who need to have something to gripe about. People who take children to a restaurant and allow them to wander around and misbehave should be kicked out if they don't get their children under control. Proprietors are not babysitters and other diners want to throttle the kids. Teach your children to mind or take them out like we "the geezers" did. My husband or I took ours out to the car and ate in shifts many times until they learned to sit properly and not misbehave. Florida law or not if a child touches anything in any business and breaks it the parents are responsible for replacing it. LISTEN UP PARENTS!

If you want excellent food and a friendly, hands on owner-operator who gives portions big enough to have leftovers don't miss out on Uncle Rodney's. If you go at closing you may find he is out of something, but not to worry. What ever you get will be mouth watering and plenty of it.

Excellent Ribs – My cousin from Tampa, best friend from the midwest, and I went to Uncle Rodneys to try the ribs. They are excellent and the price is good especially when you get the family order of ribs and split them. The baked beans are delicious and the cole slaw is tasty. The only thing I could complain about is don't dine in during the summer months as the fans just don't cool it off enough to justify eating inside. I would highly recommend you try Rodneys.

Owner in love with himself – First, Rodney, Pay your TAXES!

The food was good, because of the smoked meat. His BBQ has no seasoning, along with everything else he serves. So overall just ok.

Then he comes out to talk to the customers. He is self righteous and believes he is the BBQ King of Tampa. This was the biggest turn off.

Second, Pay your Taxes!

Love love love this place! – This place is amazing. I had some friends take me there when i first got to Macdill back in 06 and i keep going back. Its without a doubt the best bbq place in south tampa. Tried Kojak's...not enough food for the price. Tried Alabama's....too dry. And tried Pitmaster's...same as Alabama's. Amazing food, Great Service...Affordable! YOU HAVE TO GO~

Great BBQ...best in the area...just bring CASH with you!!! – I have noticed similar tastes to First Choice BBQ in Brandon/Tampa (corner of Falkenburg and Adamo), but it's great to have a place sooooo close to the base. The food is great and it feels like a picnic...no frills.

However, don't forget to bring cash with you...their machine is down most times. In this economy where a Debit Card/Credit Card is mostly used...that can ruin a business, regardless of how good it is.

Even with that...the smokey flavor of the ribs are great and it's realllllly easy to over order...also, you will love the potato salad!!!

Enjoy!

best bbq in Florida! – My husband and I are originally from Kansas city, where we grew up around lots of good bbq. Now that we live in Florida, good bbq is hard to come by! But then I found Uncle Rodney's.. And I have to say it is probably some of the BEST bbq we have ever had! My personal favorite is the pulled pork sandwich, while my husbands is the ribs. It's a nice balance between smokey and saucy, so you get the best of both worlds! just try his place out, you would be crazy if you didn't like it!
