One of the only FLAWLESS meals I've eaten in greater Tampa Bay area.. Everything was incredible and Home made. Expensive but well worth it. Ambience a little Manhattan 1980s retro dated, but its the food that counts. Not big on Faux french servers but mine was excellent. You cant find this meal down here. To the guy who lost his reservation, it happens , call the owner and im sure he'll comp you something to make you feel better. Exceptional!!!!

The best restaurant in the area.
Excellent Food and selection... Great fine dining!!!
Excellent Service and intimate setting...
This is my all time favorite.
Small, romantic, great wine list, wonderful food and service. Yes, make a reservation and expect to pay for the experience. It is a good experience. Although I didn't order a bottle of wine, the selection is impressive. Wine by the glass; a little weak but drinkable. The food is marvelous. Portions were large, and the salad, simple and to the point. Went on a Saturday evening, seats 38 so it said in one publication I read. It is small, and romantic. Great service. I would definately go again.
Great Restaurant.
The company I work for had our Christmas party at The Black Pearl.
The atmosphere was wonderful, the filet was to die for
and the service was perfect.
My husband and I can not wait to go back in
February to celebrate our anniversary.
Disapointing.... I want to post this review and express the enormous disappointment I experienced while dining in The Black Pearl. As every customer, I heard wonderful things about this restaurant (owned by the rudest and most money-hungry New Yorker) and convinced myself to take my wife and enjoy a beautiful evening. After struggling with TONY (the owner) to convice him I had a reservetion made weeks ago and being greeted by a drunk server (could smell alcohol from a mile away), we were finally served (hoping the experience would get better) our finely presented entrees. I can give credit for presentation; however the food tasted like a culinary experiment project. For every single bite of my meal I could taste the lack of experience and the lack of imagination in the matching of ingredients. Hate to sound snobby but when you pay around $30 for an entree the least you would expect is quality. In addition to the horrible taste that made you stop eating by your third bite, the temperature of my filet was so cold I could feel I was eating a fresh corpse. Overall experience was really disappointing. If you are searching for fine dining, a romantic, quiet and very personal experience in the Tampa Bay area I suggest Armani's Restaurant. Forget about spending all this money in a "wannabee" exclusive restaurant.
expensive. Have money to burn, this is the place to go. Very expensive but good food and service. Great for a first date or entertaining a client.
Romance and Excellent Cuisine.
After searching out several restaurants I stumbled across The Black Pearl. I assumed this was going to be the kind of restaurant you go to once in a life time. I admit I was wrong. The staff was very friendly and full of knowledge. The cuisine was the best I have ever had. I have dined from NY to LosAngeles. This Restaurant has quickly become my favorite. They have great selection of wine and a menu with daily features to match. Menu prices are very competitive. My wife and I now dine here almost weekly. I highly recomend The Black Pearl to anyone for any reason. Great for a romantic get away. The Creme Brulee is a must have! ! ! ! Their Duck is the best. They will even accomidate vegetarians. As my wife found out.
I would give this place six stars f I could
A True Pearl Indeed!!. My first time at The Black Pearl was truly a magnificent one. The host and waiters were all very charming and friendly, very dedicated to our needs. The atmosphere and mood of the restaurant was both very soothing and elegant. I coud not imagine anyone having a bad experience at this establishment. The food is terrific, the service is top-notch, and we will definately be coming back in the near future!
FEELS LIKE HOME.
From the moment I first walked into the Black Pearl, I felt like I was home. There was a closeness that I have only felt in Manhattan restaurants with the simple single door entry, being greeted immediately and walked to my "regular" table(it was only my second time there!), I felt a part of the family. The tables are adorned with a variety of depression glass and in the background I hear Bobby Darin singing . After a brief and colorful description of what the chef has created for this evening, me and my guest settle into a comfortable conversation of our shopping finds of the day, completely forgetting that we are in a restaurant!
Our waiter than arrives to take our order when we realize we have completely forgotten to take a look at the menu, and instead of being put off, as so often happens, he simply reminds us that "he is there for us", not the other way around.
Once we have ordered and received our food, we are even more delighted and insist on inter-tasting , how do I say, the creation that has been placed before us. The appetizers that we had,(try the pate, the goat cheese, the butternut squash ravioli!), just left us begging for more food!
As the entrees arrive, we still keep tasting each others food, mind we are not a tasting group, we just want to share our little bites of heaven. The filet was a true "melt in your mouth" experience, other places ,unmentioned, do not compare. The lamb cooked to perfection, was delicate and flavorful , and the scampi, true to form, was a garlic lovers delight( make sure to ask for extra bread to get every drop of sauce!)
I was not sure about what to do when faced with the decision of ending it all, but I was pressured into taking it just one step further..... the homemade licorice ice cream!
The combination of friendliness, comfort and an outstanding dinner have made the Black Pearl one of those treasured finds that I will bring my naysaying New York friends to when they ask "Why Florida?"
