Although the dessert menu is large, many people aren't familiar with Greek dishes so stop at the Hallas Bakery in the same place and ask the staff about any item that attracts your interest. Then ask the waiter for it at the restaurant.
Past Tense. Used to be excellent.
We have ea ten at the restaurant many times, and taken visitors, but on Friday 3/37/09. We were very disappointed. The salad was not at all like we had experienced before. The stuffed Grouper and The stuffed flounder had imitation Crab Meat inside. When we complained to the Manager he was very defensive and aggressive. We were not looking for free food, even though t hey offered us free dessert, we declined.
Word of mouth is always the best way of advertising. We will not be returning or recommending this restaurant in the future.
best Greek food.
I have to admit I haven't eaten at many Greek restaurants, but this was my first experience with it, and have found that Hella's is still the best Greek restaurant I've ever eaten at. I usually get the Pastitsio. they've had the same chef for about 12 or 13 years now, and I'll keep going back as long as he's there. my parents always get the Mousaka. we all love the food we get. one time I got the Greek spaghetti, and that was delicious too. if you're in the mood for a diabetic shock, order some baklava. it is ridiculously sweet in a good way with sugar and honey. it's the perfect way to finish a great meal. serving sizes are generous. when you get the food, it might not appear very large, but Greek food usually is very filling. the last time I was there, I weighed over 300 pounds, and could barely finish my meal.
I live in Pennsylvania, and every time I go to Florida, Hella's is a must stop location.
it can get busy after 5-5:30 PM and on weekends, so try to be there a little early.
Best Food in Tarpon Springs. I read the reviews on this site and cannot understand for the life of me how anyone can say that it was no good. I am originally from NY where the Greek food is amazing but I have to honestly say that Hellas is right up there. If you had a bad experience, try it again, you will be pleasantly surprised.
Greek-American is hard to find.. This is a solid mom&pop Greek (duh! Hellas means Greece in Greek) and I will return. In a world of 'benigan look-a-likes' this is a breth of fresh air. Of course it is nothing like going to Greece and eating there, but in the Southeast US this is the place to go and eat Greek (Hellas).
To be avoided at all costs..
In all the resaurants I ever ate in all over the world, Hellas was the worst. My gyro was dry and overseasoned and the mousaka ordered was some sort of non-authentic variety with what appeared to be rice pudding on the top. Very little meat and barely a touch of eggplant.
Upon complaining about the dishes, I was rudely dissmissed BY THE OWNERS DAUGHTER as wanting free food and she threatented to call the police. Something is seriously wrong here in that Hellas does not care about their customers nor customer satisfaction.
Don't waste your money here . Go somewhere else. The place is a joke.
Excellant Greek Food. This is the best Greek restaurant in Tarpon Springs. I had a birthday party for my Father-in-law and drove from Orlando to Tarpon Springs to pick up the food for the party. Emanuel told me exactly how to reheat all the dishes and it was absolutely wonderful. The service is the best and the Greek Style Shrimp is to die for. There is lots of goodies in the bakery to choose from that are delicious.
A top spot on Dodecanese Blvd.. Hellas is among the top few Greek Restaurants on Dodecanese Blvd. It is perhaps the largest and best decorated. The food was very good. I have recommended it to friends and they gave it high marks. For someone who is only going to be in Tarpon for one day, I recommend Hellas. But is a close race with several others. Competition is stiff among Greek restaurants here so prices are right and quality is good.
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. Huge knot of waiters stood right behind our table yelling and talking to their buddies, shouting and carrying on. My waiter couldn't tear himself away from his mates to take our order. Extremely unprofessional and disruptive during the whole meal. When I requested to move, waiter stated he had three tables and I could sit at any of the 3. HELLO MORON, I am the customer ... I can sit anywhere I want, whether or not I am in your station. THat should have been my clue, I should have got up and left right then. Pure arrogance.
Food average, waiter completely nonattentive, other waiters got us refills etc. Waiter and his buds still loudly talking trash inches from my table. No class whatsoever. Time to get the check and leave ... a HUGE blast of air comes out of the round AC vent overhead and spews TRASH (mold, dust , dirt ? Pure tons of FILTH) all over us and the table, about 1/2 inch thick. ANother waiter rushes up and apologizes, starts to wipe the table and states "Lucky you already finished eating." Whatever.
Went to the manager to check out, on the phone speaking greek, never even acknowledges my presence, takes money. I try to tell him what just happened and he mumbles and waves me off. Never once stops speaking greek or gets off the phone to actually listen. Arrogant moron. Acts like he doesn't speak english, of course he does.
These clueless gits ruined an otherwise beautiful visit to Tarpon Springs.
WHile you're there, vist the spongarama and museum, take a $10 dolphin boat ride, take the $1 Trolley tour. Stroll the waterfront, have an ice cream. Visit Howard Beach after.
BUT AVOID HELLAS LIKE THE PLAGUE. Then you too will love Tarpon Springs.
Little piece of Greece!. This restaurant is fantastic. The olive oil on the table is the best there is! Loved it so much that I bought my own bottle. The service was professional and food was great! Even though I was stuffed, I found my way to the bakery next door! I highly recommend this restaurant.
