Creepy and Frightening..Worst Dr. ever!!!

by miss scarlett at Citysearch

I picked this quack out of the phone book. Big mistake. Four separate doctors recommended I see a specialist for an ear infection that is not going away with antibiotics. There is not enough space here to say how rude and creepy this character is. I should have listened to my instincts and walked out. He never spoke or commented about anything I said. He stuck tubes and cotton up my nose, and when I asked him for a diagnosis, he said everything was fine, then led me to the receptionist to pay. No wonder there wasn't another patient in the place. Worst experience I've ever had. His license should be revoked. This was horrible, please take my advice and stay away from him. My ear is still painful, and I'm looking for a real Dr. who cares about people, not just money. I left one star because I had too. I should have done research FIRST.

  • Pros: Nothing!
  • Cons: Rude, hateful and incompetent

I read the complaints about this doc, and I must admit that his office staff can be very cold, rude and abrupt. I was also warned by my friend (who's been in the medical field here for 20+ years and knows everyone) that Adkins didn't have the best bedside manners but was the best ENT around. Since I was looking for a Doctor, not a nursemaid, I made the appointment.

My experience was ... let me say this, I found nothing unpleasant about his communication with me.

More importantly, he preformed a delicate surgery, removing a tumor that was sitting on top of the salivary gland and right up against a nerve. A less skilled surgeon might have left me with "droop mouth". The only thing I suffered from the surgery was a sore throat and numbness for a while.

So he's not "warm fuzzies"... so what. I know plenty of doctor's who are sweet, friendly, warm, etc and lousy practitioners. Do you want your hand held, or do you want your problem efficiently treated?

  • Pros: excellent surgeon
  • Cons: office staff "a little rough around the edges"

Worst Doctors office experience I ever had!

by KarynLehmanRusso at Citysearch

My appointment was at 9am on Monday February 8, 2009. We arrived at 8:40, the door was locked, At about 9, the door was unlocked, we expected someone to open the door, they did not. Dr. Adkins walked in, nevr introducted himself, just asked why was I there. I told him my problem and prior experience with Meniere's Syndrome. He never looked at me, he just wrote on my chart. He examined my ears, looked in my nose, never saying a word. He said I needed further testing, and to stay there. The Audiologist gave me hearing tests. I told her my past experience with dizziness, nausea, severe ringing in my ears. I apologized if I was rude, I was not trying to tell her her job, I just wanted someone to listen to me. She said the test did not indicate blockage, it showed nerve damage that the Dr. will explain the results/treatment. Dr. Adkins came in, never looked at me. Started writing a prescription for"a diuretic". I asked why? He said my systems indicate fluid in the inner ear. He felt he could not diagnosis Meniere's without a series of tests such as brain scan, none of which he suggested. I asked his to explain why I could hear one minute, use a Q-tip and immediately have hearing loss. He briefly looked at me and said he could not, it may have been coincidence. He got up, led me to the desk said bye. No follow-up visit was mentioned. The woman at the desk did say to let them know how I wasdoing and that will be $235. I paid by check, walked out to waiting room, saw my husband and started to cry. It was one of the worst experiences of my life. I have told my family and friends and asked them to tell everyone they know, never go to Dr. Atkins. I thought doctors took an oath to help the sick with compassion and caring. Dr. Adkins seems to have forgotten that part of his oath. I actually feel sorry for him today, he is not a happy man and obviously does not like his job!

  • Pros: None I can think of ,well perhaps short waiting time...
  • Cons: Very cold office staff, rude doctor, never looked or talked to you

Worst doctor ever..Never go here

by Fix766 at Citysearch

Never go to Dr. Atkins. My husband went this morning to have his ear examined and see if he could have a sleep apnia test with it. The doctor never spoke a word during the whole exam or explained what he was doing.

He stuffed 5 inch cotton rolls up my husbands nose without warning. When asked he said "its part of the examination" and thats it. after taking them out he picked up a nasal flashlight. when he started inserting it my husband asked, how far are you putting that in my nose. His answer "sit still, as far as i have to to see what i need to see." After he was done, he told my husband he was dying. He was a "walking tomb bomb and could die any time. He was "grossly overweight and smoked. Maybe the sleep test would give you another year but it may not matter:"

  • Cons: Dr completely rude and non explanatory
