DO NOT GO HERE – I have been here three times and twice had a bad experience. Do not believe any of their promotions because there is more fine print than they show you. Both times I came for promotional deals, I ended up spending twice as much for food that was NOT worth it. The managers are extremely rude and are not willing to make your dining experience pleasurable. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY here!
Less than Mediocre – My $18.99 captain's platter contained 3 shrimp and 3 scallops with the fish and crab cake - don't waste your money on this tasteless choice. The salad was way past it's prime and the croutons were very stale. My husband's mahi mahi was overdone and chewy. Maybe no effort was made because we were the only customers there on a Saturday for lunch. Our waiter was nice and he kept the drink refills coming.
beware – Two for one beer was $5.00. Who charges that much for a beer.!
BBQ ribs were said to be baby backs, They were not. They were fatty and had these opaque like cartileges about the size of a skinny pencil running along each side of each bone. Never saw anything like it. They were not etible.
Great Food Amazing atmosphere – My family and I have a great time. You can't sit outside though because theres always people smoking so it really ruins the night.
Our Family Always Enjoys Catches – We own a waterfront vacation rental in Holiday, FL When we are in town my husband, son and I always go out of our way to eat at Catches. I am very picky about where I eat due to my germ phobia! Catches is very clean and tastefully decorated, they've decorated the bar area with captains chairs similar to those on a fishing boat. We've enjoyed every meal so far, I loved the delicious new portabella sandwich, my 5 yr old loved the fancy mac and cheese. On our last visit our waiter treated us like celebrities! He even offered to take photos of our family, as did the hostess on our way out (who also promptly seated us upon arrival). Very friendly staff, our waiter checked on us often. Their outdoor area is limited and the views are obstructed by an overpass on one side and the casino ship on the other. I wish they offered a "family friendly area outdoors" for non-smoking families with children who do not wish to eat their meal sitting in a cancer cloud! We would have given a 5 star rating if not for this issue. Overall we were very pleased with our last visit.
Catches welcomes all people – Catches was a wonderful first date experience and the staff was happy, smiling and attentative to our needs. We even had a guy make me balloon flowers!!! We enjoyed the Coconut Shrimp most of all of the things we ordered. I read a review about "if you are a minority" don't go to Catches.... Well, I'm African American and I was treated no differently than anyone else at the restaurant. People stared when we came in and were being seated because people are naturally "people watchers". Catches is vary open-space and I "stared" too as people came in or were seated. Had a great time and would go again and again.
Best Food, Perfect Waterfront View Restaurant.... – We ate at Catches the other night. First of all, all the staff was very friendly and helpful. We got seated very quickly. The view is gorgous if you like a romantic view of the water. This is the perfect place for celebrating any special occasion. While you're there, try the Lobster Ravioli, it was absolutely delicious. I have never had anything like it. I would recommend this place to everyone.
Under new owners – under new owners. Same owners as captin Jack's in Tarpon. great food and great service. .......and floridacanuck how can you give it a 1 star with out ever going inside? People like you are very lame....also Diana1106 & MMarkM63 is the same person...or couple.....and city search shame on you letting someone post a review without ever eating there...(Floridacanuck)
We loved Catches!! Made our trip so delightful – My husband, daughter, and I were visting my in-laws the week after Easter 2008. We drove by and my in-laws mentioned that this was an expensive place to eat. When my husband and I had a date night lter that week, we went there - no questions asked. We loved sitting out by the water. The service was superb! The food - tasty, fresh, fabulous. the service - attentive. We were so thrilled we took my in-laws and daughter back there later in teh week as a "Thank You" for letting us come and visit. My in-laws (who are very picky Ohioans) agreed --- they even went back on their own a few times during the remainder of their stay.
We are so pleased that my in-laws bought a place nearby so we can go back in teh coming years!
Mother's Day Ruined by Catches Waterfront Grille – We got the family together for Mother?s Day at Catches Waterfront Grille in Port Richey. What an AWFUL experience! We walked in and sat down. The place was hot, no menus were offered. When we asked, the hostess said, ?Oh, it?s all buffet today.? When the waiter bothered to get around to us, he took our beverage orders. When we found the buffet, we saw the food was very low quality and had been sitting in chafing dishes for a VERY long time. The second pass, the staff changed the buffet with others items of even lesser quality. The food was not FRESH, it looked even older than the food they replaced. Not wanting to make a scene, we suffered through it, sweating all the way. The a/c had to be broken. I was presented with a HUGE bill. Our party of 6 was charged $23.95 times 5 people and a child?s price of $8.95. I was stunned. Only 3 in our party actually ate the buffet. My eldest daughter had a salad and was charged $23.95. My middle daughter ate less than a child-sized portion and was charged $23.95. My youngest had a muffin and a waffle and was charged $8.95. They tacked on a 20% gratuity for the waiter. Why? We got our OWN food! We were shocked at the $165.00 bill.
The following day we complained to the general manager who said he would refund our credit charge. He claimed that because he had only been the manager for 5 weeks, he didn?t know how to do a charge-back, so he would mail us an $85 refund check. We were notified that the refund was on it?s way. We were later notified that he was not allowed to send us a refund. The ?accounting office? had declined the request. Instead, they sent us a gift card. Yeah, like we want to have another terrible experience in that awful restaurant.
Steer clear of this place. The food is lousy, the service is lousy, the management is lousy, the location is lousy, and the prices are lousy. Catches Waterfront Grille is a dreadful place to hold a family gathering, unless you want it ruined.
