Where is Sandy Atkinson.
For over a decade I am strolling through the beach bars. Red Lion was one of my favorite stops, one of the places where I would go and not expect too much, just like a hooligans pub somewhere in England !
Some month and a half ago I was pleasantly surprised seeing banners and posters of Sandy Atkinson performing in Red Lion.
Knowing this talented singer and gifted song writer I stayed for the show and talk to the artist, asking how she decided to to do Red Lion gig...?
Sandy smiled and said: "Doing friend a favor and promoting my new , soon to be released CD..."
It seemed to me that Sunday night will be a Sandy Atkinson night so me and group of my friends were dedicated for three hours of entertainment by Tampa Bay Blues Queen herself.
It was strange that Red Lion had that caliber of a singer, but hey, we were ready for a treat.
And after five consecutive Sundays of awesome performing, party going, drinking and dancing by the audience... Sandy was gone???
Goof of all time is that she didn't leave, but Lana the owner of famous Red Lion wanted "some changes" ?!
Knowing Lana and her methods of work for about 15 years now, I can freely say that she was very rarely making an intelligent decisions in her entertainment part, in any of her restaurants and pubs or bars.
Is it time that this unfortunate woman finally realize that even a beach bar is something more then buying booze cheap-selling it expensive and serve wings and fries...?
Are we as society getting more stupid every day and our entertainment will be chosen by people who didn't move step forward from karaoke machines and Hawaiian shirts?
What a disappointment.
To end this story and have a peace of mind I called Sandy Atkinson and ask when she is coming back?
She responded: "I miss my audience, my fans who were coming to see me. We had so much fun and had a great time... Other then that have nothing else to say except that now I have my Sundays for me, maybe put few more songs on that new CD"!
When I asked where we can see her again she responded with a smiling voice:" I ll be in HIDEAWAY CAFE on Friday, following SKIPPER'S SMOKEHOUSE on Saturday..."!
So, I went to both shows, Hideaway gig was duo with Cannon Quinn, great guitar player, followed by Jayne Kelli and Skipper's Smokehouse was total blast with her full band TRUE LOVES where this awesome artist were in her element totally appreciated by couple hundred visitors who, not like Miss. Lana, know, understand and love true musician and talent.
As far as Red LIon goes-it will never be the same.
The stamp that Sandy Atkinson left in only five weeks will be remembered more then decades of mistakes and bad judgement calls of an owner.
Red Lion just lost several customers.
Thank God for locals and bar-flies, karaoke machines and bad taste, 'cause this bar would be done and gone thanks to the owners.
Great Local Pub!!. The bartendars are great and they know how to keeps the customers happy. I always have a great time there! I love the wings and the shepherds pie, def worth the trip here.
Beyond My Expectations!.
I was at Red Lion when the very rude man and his overly obnoxious girlfriend were causing a huge scene. This man was mad that he had to wait because a table of 15 was there first and after maybe 20 minutes or so (even though they were eating appetizers and drinking beers) they got pissed off at the table of 15 and said they weren't paying. After the disagreement the cops came and the man and his girlfriend went crazy on the cop, and he ended up not paying for wings that were already cooked at this time. Must have been tough to pay for the 35 cent wings.
But anyways, these wings were ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! They're big, nearly 100% meat, and an outstanding price! I totally reccomend! We also had Jeff as our waitor and he was great. Very prompt and casual with us. Great guy!
Just bring some loose change to pay for these wings, as this couple clearly did not.
Great Food and excellent staff.
I have been going here for over a year, I have never had a bad meal. The wings are the best anywhere! For the amount of food and the quality the prices are great.
Tuesdays can get a little hectic for the staff, but that's because wings are only $.35 each that night. The crowd gets good sized and the staff really hustles to keep up.
Well worth the wait in my book. I'll keep going there!
Had to call the cops on my waiter.
After waiting more than a half-hour for an order of wings my gf and I decided to leave and pay for what we had (two beers and a horrible order of fried mushrooms).
The waiter insisted that we would be charged for the order of wings that he had not served us, then had the gall to call my gf and I a**holes and try to get in my fg's face.
The rude waiter who claimed to also be the manager (this reminded me of the Kinkos scene from Chappelle Show) insisted that we had to pay the entire bill. He even pretended to call the cops on us.
The last thing I wanted was to get half way home and get pulled over because some rude waiter reported me for dining and leaving, so I called the police.
The waiter Jeff didn't seem to happy when the police informed him that he couldn't charge us for food we hadn't been served.
On top of this the place is dirty, dingy, and disgusting.
Avoid at all costs. Coasters is a block away and a million times better.
Don't bother there are much better places to eat.
I wouldn't bother visiting this establishment if you are a tourist. I don't think they like them much.
The service was exceptionally slow and it took a long time to even get a drink. It took a further half an hour for our waiter to ask what we wanted to eat. There seemed to be only him serving the bar and the food and he was obviously rushed of his feet. He was quite rude and had a very brisk manor.
I asked if the Children could have their meals brought out with the adult starters. Not an unreasonable request you may think.
Half the starters arrived, then the kids meals, then main meals started coming before people had had their starters. The waiter brought a starter out after my husband had finished his meal and when i tried to say it was too late his attitude was "well you ordered it and your paying for it" "we have bent over backwards getting the kids meals out like you asked" "we only have a small kitchen" etc etc his attitude stunk. Very aggressive.
This place is best avoided. Worst food and Service ever experienced in the USA.
We were drawn to this establishment as we drove up Gulf blvd as the sign said 'Brits Pub' Live TV.
Wow, they have lots of tv's, Showing all sorts of American sports. There was nothing Brit about this estasblishment at all. In the UK this place would get done under the trades discription act.
We sat waiting for 1/2 an hour before our drinks order was taken, and then waited again for our food order to be taken. The waiter was very aggressive whilst taking our order and even more aggressive in the delivery of it. The food in itself was the worst we have eaten in Florida. I had the steak and mushroom pie, it was disguisting, it was laced with dijon mustard and it dominated the pie. The childrens meals were very poor quality.
When I went to the ladies toilet, there was mould and fungi growing up the walls.
On the whole AVOID THIS ONE LIKE THE PLAGUE.
POOR SERVICE. VERY POOR SERVICE, STARTERS CAME OUT AFTER THE MAIN MEALS WERE SERVED. WAITER WAS VERY RUDE.IN FACT A REALLY NASTY PEICE OF WORK WE WAITED 30 MINS BEFORE WE WERE EVEN OFFERED A DRINK. ALL IN ALL THE WORST MEAL AND SERVICE EVER THE OWNER OF THIS BAR SHOULD TAKE CARE WHEN EMPLOYING HIS STAFF.
Not for Women. Went in with friends, I was paying for everything till, My male friends began yelling at me across the bar to play a game with them. I said no a few times but then they where able to get the bar maid on their side to force me to play a game I didn't want to play. When I yelled back the bar maid scolded me like a child for darinmg to speak up to men who where trying to force me to do someting I didn't want to do. I will never go there again, I paid for the first order and made them pay for the rest of their drinks. Cops are called there on a regular basis. Its just dangerous after dark.
Better than salt rock.
If you are going to be on a Florida Beach and want a quiet local place with out all the tourest junk.
Yeah, believe it or not, the red lion is it.
All the other places on this beach claim to be local places, but as a resident, I can't even get parking for dinner due to all the tourist there. Mostly main land Florida people thinking thats the best place to go.
Sure its old, but all of this beach is old, the house I live in was built in the 1930's.
They are sadly building new buildings now.
Condos are going up right across the street from me.
Will cause a lack of sunshine this summer on my one floor beach cottage.
Red Lion has had its trouble in the past.
But its a real part of Indian Rocks Beach.
Don't espect lamb in the shepards pie, but its as close as you will get to real shepards pie in america not from a can.
Ohh and less than 100.00 a bite :) LOL
The shepards pie was about 9 usd. It was enough food to last 2 days if I wasn't such a pig.
If you have a problum with anything there, tell them about it.
Bar tender spending to much time with friends or chatting up a cute girl?.
If you have a cell phone, call the bar from the bar and say hey, I need a drink down here.
Just because it patterened after UK doesn't mean you can't do some good old American bitching.
Ohh, I like it there so don't start filling it up with so many people I can't get in the door.
Saturday is all you can eat prime rib, guess where I'm going to be.
