Best Seafood. The food (selection, portions, flavor), the atmosphere, the wine selection...everything about this place will make for a delicious meal and an enjoyable evening. The staff is supurb. I just moved here and this is now my favorite restaurant.
The Best place in the area. Come to the area once a year and we make sure we eat at Salt Rock at least once while we are in town. This place has great steaks and seafood. You could spend hours looking over the wine list and they have many wines by the glass. The view of the water is great. This is the best all around restaurant in the area. A great value for what you get. Its not cheap but worth the little extra. If you are looking for a special night out this is the place.
a local veteran's view.
I live 5 minutes from SRG, I have been there about 30 times since it's opening. It's a favorite for special occasions and important dates. Starting with the food: it's generally very consistent with some nice choices. My favorie appy is the Kingston trio, skwered chicken beef and pork served aside a flaming mini hibachi were you sear your own skewers. Nice with jerked sauce on the side. I consider this my 'turf' before the 'surf'. Entree faves are the coconut shrimp, pan seared tuna and when in a land lubber mood, the filet mignon (get it pocketed with maytag bleu cheese!!). The dessert parade is lead by the creme brulee drizzed with a raspeberry reduction.
When busy, the service can be spotty, this is the restaurant's weak point. Food can be slow or rushed, you can wait a long time or have dinners come out while you are still eating salad.
The atmosphere is top notch. waterfront, nice combo of dark woods and limestone and the place has a strong trendy upscale new american feel. The people watching is fabulous, a real place to see and be seen.
Insider tips: dont go on holidays, like Easter or Mother's day. Limited and expensive, if not disappointing holiday menu's. Always make a ressie and if you can go on a week night or outside of peak tourist season, that's a plus. Yes, use the free valet parking!!!
It's a gamble every time. I have been 5 or 6 times and sometimes it's excellent and sometimes it's inedible. All in all I think it's overrated. There are lots better places to eat in Pinellas for that kind of money. However, if King Crab legs are your deal, get them here, the saw them down the middle with a band saw and cook them over the grill, no work to get to the meat.
Outstanding service, Great Food. A group of friends and I go to the Salt Rock Grill EVERY Friday night. It's a perfect place to unwind from the week and begin the weekend. Their espresso martini's are fabulous! You can't go wrong with anything on the menu, but my favorites are the tuna shashimi, plank salmon and raw oysters!
Bark but no bite. My husband and I were out for a romantic wknd and it was our first time visiting SRG. After we were seated, we waited about 20min for service. There were 2 other servers waiting on ALL of the tables next to us except ours. Finally my husband had to get up and ask for a manager after both of the servers kept walking right past us like they had not seen us even though we had made eye contact more than once.Once the manager was made aware of the problem, not only did he not apologize but it took another 5min before anyone came over. The manager just looked confused and unprofessional. It was a horrible experience and even thgh the food was good, we have definitely had better. It is not all that it is built up to be.We will not return and just keep on exploring for rstrnts that do appreciate our business.
Fantastic Deck, Good Service, Bad Food. Nothing better than dining on the waterfront. It was beautiful and relaxing. The service was average (nothing to compain about). The only portion of the meal that was good was the bread and oil. My steak was cold, and so was my girlfriends chicken. The meal was very flavorless, and not worth the money that was sepnt. I would not recommend this restaurant for meal, but drinks on the deck absolutely!
worth every penny. We winter in Florida and go to the Salt Rock every year for me birthday. You can go for the early bird which is a good value or in the evening where the atmosphere is incomparable, but the prices much higher. Always make reservations well in advance as it is packed every night. But the food is the best there is. The filet is second to none. The place is bustling, but we like that. Happening place, wonderful, trendy atmosphere. Great coffee drinks. Worth the splurge.
Tough competition in seafood. We live in one of the seafood capitals - however it doesn't compare with San Francisco. Salt Rocks comes real close to that high end range where quality and price meet the highway - simply put, recommended, expect a high price, you'll get what you pay for - try the "School of Fish" - close to Aliotos in San Francisco.
Tampa Native. One of the great seafood restaurants in our city. Near the beaches and many hotels for you tourists.
