bad management

I was there with my wife to celebrate her birthday. She was pretty drunk but not causing any kind of problems. Management had approached her and told her to stop dancing and sit down. I was in the restroom at the time and when I returned her and her friends told me what happened. We asked to speak with the manager and ask for a explanation why they said this to my wife. We were not rude but the manager was after a brief discussion they decided to throw us out. The police officers were called and did a sobriety test on me. I was ok to drive and they told me that they have more problems with this establishment. I told them what happened and they were agreeing with me that management is more or less a bunch of douchbags.

Place has gone down hill....

Ive been going there for years. Then they start charging a cover, there is no club in 2 counties, that charges woman to get in. Now they also ID their regulars, and they all know me. Well I go their to dance, and laugh at the freaks, there is no way Im going to pay to do that and be treated crappy as a regular. Bye Bye New York New York!

CAUTION

I moved away from here 20 yrs ago. At that time NY NY was a hot spot. I recently moved back and was pleasantly surprised to see it still open. I went there Saturday night in anticipation of the fun to be had. I was very dismayed and let down to find that NY NY has deteriorated to nothing more than a place for middle age Black men to pick up Obese White women. Its glory days are long gone.

I guess I haven't been coming here as long as 'niteowl', but 25 years and counting ain't bad.
I have to agree with the comment on the "bootie" music, moderation is the key.
As for the septic problem, I have never seen that over the years. I'm not there all the time mind you, but have not witnessed it myself.
All in all, a fun place. Waaaay too few clubs for us 'older' folks in the Pinellas/Pasco area. [hint hint]
I assume ownership has considered (and dismissed?) opening a 2nd location? I'm sure it would be popular, as long as the same ambiance was maintained. I know I would go! Got a gentleman in mind that would pony up the $$$ too if interested.
- Pros: The over 30 crowd can feel welcome here
- Cons: Too much bootie music on the weekends

Yep - it is old!

Okay there is only 1 reason to go to the Old NY NY - and that is to have a good drink and watch a bunch of old people dancing. This can be some pretty hysterical entertainment. The outfits worn by some will just crack you up. This seems to be where all the 50 something divorcees hang out. The location is good - but if I owned this place here is what I would do. GUT EVERYTHING INSIDE. The old tarnished brass rails - pleather bar stools, old wooden tables with napkins under the leg to level them etc... and all the other way out dated decor. The place reeks of smoke. Then make it a really nice nightclub - NO SMOKING - but with a smoking section outside for those that do. Then change the name to THE NEW - New York New York.

- Cons: Cons - I am sure that they are hanging here.
