Run don't walk away. We went last night to the Sam's in Clearwater. The service was beyond bad. Michael our server didn't even know what was in the veg medley. We ordered the sirloin and shrimp. Our server took the orders, brought the salads - 20 minutes later - and then never came back to see how things were. We asked the hostess to send him (three times). Michael finally returned and when we stated how unhappy we were, his head just kept bobbing up and down with no comprehension as to what we were saying. We told him we wanted ice water (actually looked at our party of three and said "How many?") and another round of drinks and to see the manager. The manager arrived and we repeated our unhappiness. Our salad plates were empty and still on our table. While the manager was there Michael returned with our ice water and drinks. I waited. Yep, he placed the drinks on the table and left the salad plates and empty wine glasses on the table. The manager removed the dirty dishes and even .........finally ........brought our meals 45 minute after we had been seated. Our steaks were about 2x2 and the shrimp was rubbery. The veg medley was only half done, carrots tasty but the squash rock hard. I will say they do give out a hugh amount of mashed potatoes (at least 1-1/2 cups) but it doesn't make up for the rest of the meal. We are snowbirds and this is the second time we've had bad service and food at Sam Seltzer. It is definately the last time we go!!!!!!!
Great place!!!. Of all the steakhouses I've been to in the area, Longhorn, Outback, Cattle company, this place is the best. It may not be a $50 steak joint, but it is the best overall place in the area, bar none. Very inexpensive at about $18 for the 16oz ribeye, phenomenal masher potatoes, and a huge salad that should be a meal by its self. The rolls come with the meal and they are delicious! The garlic ranch dressing is to die for! Whats better is free birthday meals, and virtually every month they have a special for a free bottle of wine or a free appetizer (get the onion, it takes Outback's to a different level!) of your choice. Me and my wife have gone there about twice a week for the last 2 years. Everyone knows us and we have only had sub par service one time, the manager comped the entire meal and never since then have we had a problem, nor before then. I can't recommend this restaurant enough, and I will continue to go there forever.
don't go on night they have seminars,. we were told 45 min and instead we waited 1.5 Hrs. If we were told at the start we would not have even stated and waited all that time other people with reservations also waited 1/2 hr past their time. we were totally dissatisfied with the expierence and if I go back I will drive to location in Tampa were we had much better service the week before. I will never recommend this location to any of our out of town friends and family.
needs an overhaul.
while lengthy the following is a letter that I submitted after my experience: The Booth From Hell! I've worked in the restaurant industry for over 20 years; I understand that some tables are better than others. As we proceeded to slide into the booth I noticed that the bench on the right side 1/3 of the way back was broken causing a definate tilt. For a party smaller than ours it could have been avoided. Fortunately, my brother didn't mind sitting there. Our Server was ok. Michael was obviously very busy, but he handled it alright. It would probably help his table service if he could be more assertive vocally. SPEAK UP!
Back to "The Booth From Hell", the bussers and servers were using the ledge on the left side of the booth to store B&Bs, rolled silverware, menus, and damp towels to wipe the tables down with. I probably would not have noticed the thick dust if the constant banging of the plates hadn't attracted my attention to that area..."The Booth From Hell" part 2 the right side: A wonderful place to store the varied and many condiments necessary in a Steak house. Not the greatest, until it combined with the 2 dirty B&Bs which resided in that area for the duration of our meal. Directly between the booths150 and the booth to the right(151?) Stood a tray jack that only disappeared with our dirty entree plates. I really don't enjoy having others dirty dishes piled and left staged to be carried out(not always Promptly) by my table. At this point I realized that I was not in a booth at all but in a wait station of some sort. Where was the POS? ice bin? soda gun? I'm surprised that after lodging one complaint a manager didnt stop by to check on us. This letter probably could have been avoided if one had.
Well Below Expectations.
I assumed with an average rating of 8.6 this would be a good steak house. I arrived around 6:00pm Sunday evening and was given a 20-30 min wait estimate. It took over 1:30 to seat me as one person! I don't mind having to wait but to underestimate by over an hour is just bad business.
I ordered the special assuming it was going to be a good meal. The Prime Rib really did taste like stew meat and was less than desirable. The Mashed Potatoes were good but the Creamed Spinach was horrid. About the only redeeming part of the evening was a nice glass of Cab and the service (once seated) was pretty good.
Great Stew Meat. I have NEVER had a good steak, much less an excellent steak at Sam Seltzer's. Always very fatty and the prime rib tastes like stew meat. This place is horrible and I would much rather go to Texas Cattle Company.
The atmosphere is cozy and comfortable. They usually have special menu items that are a good
value. Waitstaff is very pleasant.
Bringamistress. Good food, looks like the place all the executives would bring their mistress when the wife is out of town or shopping at Westshore. Dark..., how low can you go booths. The food was not as good as it once was and the servers are getting too casual.
Whent to Sam`s and was very pleased with the service and the decor.
The food was very good and the steak i had was rear the way i like it ,and it had a smoking section away from all the wooses.
YUM!. I just moved to Tampa from NYC and ate ate Sam Seltzers. The decor reminded me of restaurants in NYC and the food was just as good. The prices were right & ou waiter/bartender was fast & friendly. I will def. go back!
