The Scene
Offering a quiet, rustic respite, this wooden building is full of passageways and gables. Its floors are a bit uneven in places, but that simply adds to the tremendous sense of history. Little has changed since 1897 except, thank heavens, the plumbing. Retirees, golfers and vacationers wanting to stay in a hotel on the National Register of Historic Places are lured here winter after winter. The property is popular with meeting planners.
The Details
Despite its age and a few changes of management in recent years, this 245-room property is an oasis away from the hustle of downtown Clearwater. The rooms are comfortable, with big beds and antique or near-antique furniture. There are a few shops and restaurants on the premises. The spa provides an array of pampering, and the golf course is just out the side door. The popular red clay tennis courts are a challenging novelty.

Bad customer service, bad room service! I found red worms in 2 of the towels in the bathroom! couldn't reach the air conditioning unit w/out climbing on a chair! Looked up and found rusted vents in the bathroom ceiling! Room service said they don't deliver champagne to the room (WHAT?!) over priced! The bellman just stood there while I tried to open the big doors w/ bags in one hand and holding one hand of each of my 3 kids! worst for your money! My sister's room was just as bad! She opened the shower curtain just to find the entire tub area full of tiny flying things! took 3 calls before someone came to help! We even changed our room-2nd room just as bad and plus we had molding to look at from our window! Plus we were charged for 2 extra rooms on our card! so needless to say....stay away from this bad nightmare of a hotel!!

Cons: EVERYTHING ABOUT THE HOTEL IS BAD
