Drive by the Queen and head west one mile to the Kurl. You won't regret it..
The Scene
The same red and white striped, 18 feet by 35 feet structure has been sitting across from Crest Lake Park since 1951. And the great ice cream and service hasn't missed a beat since. A traditional place to walk-up and order a cone, Dairy Kurl is tiny in structure but huge in the hearts of ice cream lovers. At any time of year, its three metal picnic benches under the adjacent awning are packed with kids, teenagers and the "older" kids.
What to Order
Cones are served fast and are great. But if you have time, sit down and enjoy shakes, malts, floats sundaes and more. Then wash it down with a slushy.
Get to Know the Kurl
With only a handful of owners since its inception, the Wellman family has owned and operated it since Nov. 16, 1972. Back then a small cone ran you 9 cents. In 1988 a large cone was just 55 cents and still today the prices remain more than reasonable. Choose from six sizes of cones ranging from 95 cents to $3.70. The most expensive item on the menu is a large banana split for $5.95.
Excellent Ice Cream. Being an Ice Cream Lover and a Tampa Bay Resident most of my life I know that the very best ice cream is at the Dairy Kurl on Gulf to Bay. It is just east of Highland Ave., and accross from Crest Lake Park.
the best ice cream by far. Awesome ice cream cones!! best flavored ice cream around. not much is fancy but great value!!
