Worst Dining Experience of MY LIFE.
My boyfriend & I went in to have a nice dinner. One of the patrons at the bar was very loudly talking in horrible vulgar language. Among other things he was talking about Sodomy & women's "monthly cycle". My boyfriend mentioned something to one of the employees. Don't worry, we'll send a manager over. 15 minutes later it was still continuing. I went to the bar and in my frustration said "a swear word". The assistant manager who lied to us & told us she was "only a waitress" then came over and made me the villain. After about 5 lies, (BTW no one spoke to him & they claimed to not know who was doing it); she finally said "Do you know how much money he spends at the bar". Classless, terribly upsetting and just a horrible experience.
I strongly recommend you stay away from this place!!
this bar even served me!!!. I don't usually bath or get near water because I tend to hurt myself. The last time I even got in a pool I broke my knee, which would have been a real problem except that I am so short I am not far from the ground anyway and so my knees are not all that important to me. ...where was I? oh yeah, great bar. Unfortunately i don't even remember going there.
Even Better Than Timmy Meehan's.
What a Bar!
Three of my former high school chemistry students invited me to come to Florida with them when their fourth buddy broke his knee in Mexico trying to dive for a 10 peso coin at the bottom of a kiddie pool. It was a tragic accident but my former students didn't want the fourth ticket to the Sox/Rays game to go to waste, so they invited me!
Although I am much older than they are, we found that the REEF was a place for all ages, except perhaps young children who might be easily frightened by loud noises!
The beer was very, very cold; the food (particularly the fried bologna sandwiches) was the best; and several of the women seemed to have teeth in both their lower and upper gums!
If you're like me, you probably don't get out much, but when you do, make sure you head straight to the REEF!
Just don't get home too late to take your medication!
Quirky Local Fun with Great Food.
Went here with some friends from out of town who loved the genuine Florida, locals vibe. Loads of tropical plants, a no nonsense decor, and super friendly, knowledgeable, accomodating, and quirky staff really make the place. Our server Lisa is a lovely transplant from London -- very friendly, helpful, and really knew her stuff about the menu.
The food was much better than I expected. It's not an elegant restaurant -- more of a locals hang out for football games. We had chicken wings as a starter and although we ordered hot they weren't overly so. The wings were fresh, juicey on the inside and perfectly crispy on the outside -- much better than some of the specialty wing houses in the area.
The dinner salad, although basic iceburg was jazzed up with raisens and chick peas which was a nice touch. All salads are automatically served with dressing on the side, which I appreciated.
I had the Pork Oso Bucco -- massive portion of fork tender meat in a well balanced sauce served with a medley of steamed veggies and mashed potatoes. The 'taters were OK but the veggies were perfectly cooked and I wished after that I had substitued a double portion of them instead of the mashed.
My friends ordered the ribs and two different fish dishes all of which looked perfectly cooked and in spite of the large portions -- everyone cleaned their plates.
The open bar and restaurant floor plan where you can hear the locals cheering on the football games may detract some from this restaurant -- but the food is really quite good, the prices are great, and the service is quirky and fun. Also, our dinners, although requiring widely different cooking times, arrived all together, hot, and yummy -- in spite of a packed house our wait time was very brief.
Last but not least -- when ordering wine by the glass -- it's a heavy pour and may actually be a better deal than ordering a bottle.
The Reef was the best part of our trip!. My two friends from high school and I met in St. Pete's for a long "reunion" weekend and The Reef was recommended to us for a lunch spot. We ended up going for dinner and then stayed for drinks, we liked it so much we went back the next night! The food was good, service was GREAT! (Thanks Erin) and the bar was a blast! Rick was the best entertainment I have had in a long time.....Rick if you don't own the place you need a raise! Thanks also to Steve.... We went to the beach for sun, fun and memories and The Reef supplied us with the fun and memories! Would definitely recommend it to anyone over 35.. it was a comfortable, fun, friendly place! Good job guys! Hope to see you all again.
GREAT FOR CASUAL FUN, DRINKS,AND SHOTS!!!! BARTENDER IS COOL (THANKS RICK).
We just were in the area and stopped in luckly for us. Unfortunally we did not have the pleasure of trying the eats. We did have the pleasure of meeting friendly locals and a wonderful staff. Rick was our bartender and he took care of us as if we were family. Hoping to get to go one more time before we leave.
DR J and TT
good food. This is defineatly a local hangout, and has been recommended to me by locals. The service was very good. I had the mahi mahi rueben, taste was excellent, good size for the price. Small place and parking could be a problem, but parking is difficult all along the beach area.
Used to be...... a better place. Ownership changed and it went downhill. Food now is average at best. Service went downhill too.....Got a nasty person serving me last time was there.....She indicated was an owner and really ruined the eating experience. Is located by side of Gulf and is a bit cramped....we never minded that before since food was great!! But now can't recommend it.....too many negatives!
