Looked very promising but the oysters were no good. My wife and i were very happy to read the reviews of the place and couldn't wait to go get some oysters. we are from indiana and the oysters around here are very expensive obviously. So when we visited her parents we wanted to find good oysters for a good price, which is what i thought we had found. the oysters we got were huge. I personally perfer a medium sized oyster but these were also a bit opaque, did not smell like the deep fresh ocean, and had bits of shell in them that had to be removed. My wife at 4 and said that was all she could do so i ate the other 8. It was a bit tough i must say. I felt sick the rest of the day and didn't want oysters for quite awhile after that. My fried grouper sandwich was great and loved the service and the place itself. But dont go here if your used to eating high quality oysters.
OK food, but they should cut back on disposables..
I don't know how my grilled fish can be greasy and dry at the same time, but they pulled it off. They do give you a big piece of fish though. Maybe you should stick to fried things here. Actually, no, I wasn't impressed with the fish & chips either. The secret to good fish & chips is in a fresh crispy batter, but theirs wasn't great. Cole slaw was soupy. The saving grace was extra yummy (though small) hush puppies and baked potato. Overall, the food was OK, not great. Not the place to bring a vegetarian, unless they are in the mood for an iceberg lettuce salad! (Some restaurants have a thing or two for them, but not P.J's.)
I must also mention the fact that you will create a lot of garbage eating here. Plastic disposable drinking cups, Styrofoam appetizer plates, every condiment in a plastic container with lid. If water can't be served in a reusable cup, at least serve it only by request. At my table of 6, everyone got a disposable plastic cup of water alongside their requested drink, and no one touched the water. They just got thrown away along with the hundreds of other cups per day. They did use regular dishes for the entrees, so I know they must have a dishwasher. This "beach" restaurant should be more sensitive to one of the major problems facing our oceans today: plastic garbage ending up in them via getting blown out of landfills, out of garbage cans, into storm drains, etc. the plastic photodegrates into tiny particles, fish eat it, then we eat the fish. Nice. The best way to prevent this is to stop using disposables. For that reason alone, I won't be back.
Great grouper sandwich.. There is nothing fancy here, but you can't find any better seafood. Prices are very reasonable and service is exceptional.
excellent fish & seafood.
What a find!!!! This review is for the St Pete Beach location , but we can't wait to get to the Indian Rocks restaurant now after these mouth watering oysters on the half shell, very fresh & cold.. Another treat were the Chicago style oysters which are cooked in the half shell with parmesan & garlic.. My wife said the cocoanut shrimp were as good as she has had anywhere & that's saying something..
Our son had their 18 oz broiled Brazilian lobster tail & said it was very tasty & sweet... This place has your funky, beach atmosphere to it very relaxed & the full-sized very colorful parrot is a real kid pleaser.. Prices are very reasonable & the service both times we've been there has been very attentive & quick ....
Editorial Review. Signed dollar bills cover the walls of this causal restaurant that serves signature seafood dishes, margaritas and select meat-lover treats.
The best seafood - period. Truly the best in the area, I'm sure this restaurant is as good as the one in Indian Rocks - that's where this review applies - I've tried them all, I even drive across the state for seafood, not any more!!!
Best Lobster!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. We have been going to PJ for at least 10 years. Whenever we have company, that's the first place we take them for dinner. The lobster is the best!!!!! A MUST FOR EVERYONE!
Great place, just plain cool!!!. The restaurant walls are all covered with one dollar bills and have hanging paper towels above every table, something that I think is well thought out!!! When I was there at the end of June 03', I was very happy with the staff, and the manager was always there to make sure the dine out was enjoyable.
