Tips for Gigi's Italian Restaurant

December 12, 2012

We stopped by GiGi's in Treasure Island for a anti-pasta salad to bring home after a day at work as we have lived in TI for 12 years and never tried them before. I guess the empty restaurant at dinner time should have been a clue. The hostess said the salad was good. It was not good, we are really disappointed. Wife called gigis to complain....they said they would pass the comments on (whatever that means). The anti-pasta salad was just a dressed up dinner salad with 3 pieces of good salami and a couple strips of cheese, with a dressing on the side. It is not worth the price. It will be another 12 years til we go back since the complaint process is no better than the anti-pasta salad.

Not worth the money nor the drive!. I am not a fan of this restaurant at all! My mom took me to Gigi's for my birthday a few years back and I haven't even bothered to try it again.

Very Good Pizza!. The pizza is great but oddly the other dishes i tried were just not good. Stick with the pizza and you will be happy.

Classic Italian Restaurant. I've been going to GiGi's for over thirty years and it hasn't changed. This is the place to go if you want traditional Italian food. I broke my diet to indulge in the manicotti and antipasto. The restaurant is very dark and romantic.

not for me. never had anything I liked at gigi. I don't know if it is just me. Lots of people love this place. I have been 3 times, and just didn't care for it. I hear the pizza is good, so I will atleat go back and try that.

I remember Gigi's being much better in the past. Mediocre at best.. I love the Tampa Bay area and during my last visit,I decided to return to Gigi's in Treasure Island, not having been there in 9 years. First thing I noticed was cramped booth seating.Yes, I'm a big guy but I would consider this to be cramped by most standards. My family and I were then subjected to what I consider one of my top dining peeves, a baby-talking waitress ! Yes,I used the politically incorrect term, waitress . I'm the type of person that doesn't care what my server's name is and don't like being spoken to informally by someone that I do not know and do not care to know. I have seen this baby-talking service style at other casual restaurants and really wish it would go away. Also after all the baby talking, she removed my son's drink for a refill and didn't return until called upon and reminded ! For starters, the salad was small, not so fresh and unimpressive, the blue cheese dressing seemed watered down.I didn't finish it.My wife had fried calamari and it was excellent.Lightly battered, crispy on the outside and cooked perfectly, this was the one dish that they got right. The accompanying marinara sauce was average.I ordered a pizza and was disappointed.First of all it was burnt on one side and too brown overall. The cheese, mushroom and green pepper were sparse and the pepperoni slices were the small spicy type, not my personal favorite. My wife had the stuffed manicotti with meatball which was on par with the frozen variety, whether or not that was the case,I didn't enquire. My son had the spaghetti and meatballs which also didn't appear to be fresh, was drowned in sauce and overall not as good as muellers, ragu and most frozen meatballs. The meatballs at Gigi's were large and appeared to be homemade but were mushy in texture and bland . I have had much better Italian food, even at Gigi's in the past. I also know that a good wait staff is almost impossible to find. This restaurant survives from the tourist trade as it is within walking distance of the resort hotels.

This Italian eatery provides healthy Mediterranean cuisine in a candlelit atmosphere.. In Short
Since 1967, this family-owned and operated restaurant has served quality meals at moderate prices. The health conscious preparation of its dishes and pizzas is based on fresh ingredients, low-fat dairy products and the traditional "made-from-scratch" philosophy. There are more than 30 pizza toppings to choose from, as well as thick- and thin-crust options, along with countless pasta and seafood dishes.
