Since 1920, the St. Petersburg Historical Society--the oldest cultural organization in St. Petersburg--has operated this museum that celebrates the culture and heritage of the Tampa Bay area.. The Goods
Two of the museum's four galleries hold permanent exhibitions: "First Flight" has a replica of the Benoist airboat, which made the world's first commercial flight from Tampa to St. Petersburg in 1914, and a computer simulator that lets visitors experience that flight; "Walk Through Time" is a timeline of the area's history from prehistoric to modern times.

Two other galleries feature rotating exhibits that change every four to six months. The museum has a beautiful waterfront location at Vinoy Basin, but it's still convenient to the Museum of Fine Arts, Florida International Museum, and the Pier.
