Tips for St Petersburg Pier

January 28, 2013

Visitors need parking or we will drive on by. Sorry but it is a basic requirement and for foreigners the last thing we need is a debt chasing us home. Any great experience will turn sour.

You have the address listed incorrectly. It's 2nd Avenue N.E. - St. Petersburg, FL 33701. NOT 2nd Avenue N. - you'll end up by a lake - not at The Pier. OPEN until May 31, 2013!

The Pier is OPEN for Business!. The Pier has been a tourist attraction in downtown St. Petersburg for decades and continues so today. Recent media reports include facts on demolishing The Pier and rebuilding in late 2013 or early 2014, but in the meantime there is LOTS to see and do! We even have a NEW restaurant opening in June 2011 - "Jonny Reno's" - a surf-themed restaurant with casual dining and outdoor bar on the 1st floor. There are weekly FREE music concerts, Salsa dancing on Saturdays, dolphin cruises, bike rentals, pelican feeding, shops and restaurants to visit. Don't miss The Pier! Fun for the whole family!

Beautiful area short on cash. On a recent trip, I went out of my way to spend a couple of days in St. Pete to see what it was like. I had heard some good things about it several years ago. I decided to stay in the Pier area near downtown St. Pete. It has an interesting mix of a downtown feel with immediate access to the water, Marinas, and a nice park along the waterfront. A beautiful, clear, evening seemed to add to the relaxing night I was hoping for. I picked a restaurant along Beach Dr. and settled in for dinner at an outside table. The first thing I noticed was that most of the spaces along the waterfront were empty and for lease. They few that were open were pretty busy. As more people flowed in the service started to slow down. After a while I asked for the check since my parking meter was running out of time. It was then that I noticed no fewer than 4 "metermaids" (old men and women) within a block of where I had parked. Sure enough, I was a few minutes late and already had a ticket! I noticed that they were swarming this area where there is no free parking anywhere I could find, and a 2 hr. limit on the meters. Vultures! If this city preys on customers this way, I am scratching it off my list. No wonder most of the restaurant/shop spaces were empty. Now they are asking for late fees on the parking ticket because I did not get home in time to mail payment, and have it arrive within 15 days. Seriously?! I guess my info on this area was very dated. I suggest you avoid it.

best waterfront views for local and tourists. there is no place like it in st. petersburg. where else can you go 1/4 out in to the wide water body of tampa bay to eat, shop and yes there is now nightlife there for the locals. as a local i always enjoyed the pier experience and eating at captain als but i really love the salsa dancing they now have every friday from 9 to midnite. what a great place to dance. there are people of all ages just enjoying the music or dancing the night away. yes locals there is nightlife at the pier and i love it.

St. Petersburg's most oddly shaped attraction lures crowds with plenty of choices.. The Appeal
Explore diverse marine environments and get wet with hands-on exhibits at the Pier Aquarium. You can also take a cruise, rent a jet ski or just drink in the sun and sights. Get out your wallet, though, because the Pier gives you plenty of reasons to spend money. Everything from racy bikinis to Florida-inspired art pieces and unusual jewelry can be found for sale as you stroll along.

Features
In the mood for a quick bite? The Dockside Eatery, located on the first floor, is the perfect spot to score casual, quick eats. Also on the first level, Captain Al's serves up casual seafood, a covered patio and an outdoor bar. If you're looking for a high-end experience, the Columbia offers a serene view and romantic ambience. Cha Cha Coconuts, ensconced on the top floor, features casual Floribbean fare, frosty, frothy cocktails and live entertainment.

The Pier has CHANGED Dramatically!. The reviews listed here are really out-dated. With a new management companyjthat has turned this place around, this is THE SPOT TO BE! New colors, restaurants and a food court that is inviting, there is always something to do! We rented an electric boat and went around the Bay, then toured the Aquraium on the second floor. They have great new exhibits that are fun for kids too! We ate at Cha Cha Coconuts on the top floor and had a beautiful view of the city, and great food- their burgers are wonderful!

Perfect Pier. You can't have a bad time at The Pier. From the wonderful views to the outstanding shops and music, it is a happening place. Take time to explore the Aquarium or take a trip on the Trolley or the Duck! Make it your focal point for a day (and night's ) entertainment.
