Great sandwiches and product selection. I've had nothing but positive experiences every time I've visited Castellano's. Their Cuban is easily the best in South Tampa, especially for the price. The Floridian, by comparison, charges over $10 for the size of Cuban you get for $6 at Castellano's. Their deli and meat counters are fantastic and the market shelves stock a nice selection of products.

My single gripe is that the cafe is open only for a few lunch hours on weekdays. It would be nice to be able to stop in there on a Saturday for some of the food they serve Mon-Fri.

Besides that, I have never found the store dirty or noticed any unpleasent odors. I worked in the restaurant industry for over 10 years and have an eye for preventable sanitary problems. The deli crew could be a little faster on weekdays, but that's a just staffing issue.

This is definitely a gem in South Tampa, and well worth the effort.

Bad Chicken. I bought a 5 lb. bag of chicken in there a week ago. I got it home, opened it up and it smelled terrible. I wasn't able to get back up there for a few days so I sealed it and stored it in my fridge. A week later I ran back up there and explained that I purchased bad chicken and could they please just exchange it. Unfortunately the owner was up there (not his son Paul) and he was rude and nasty. He said "I'll lose money on it." and refused to exchange it. He also told me I should have froze it immediately or else it wouldn't have lasted. I am now doing a charge-back on my credit card.

Best italian market in the Tampa area. I have made the trek to south tampa for years just to get the italian sausage and really good pasta. I usually have to go on the sly because if the rest of my family knows I am going I get a huge list to take with me for them ..This is true italian cuisine and Italian products. I Love this place .

IF YOU EAT HERE, YOU MUST BE STUPID. I should have known when I walked into this place and it smelled like rotten meat that it would make me sick. I also should have guessed by the greasy floors, counters and employees.

This place should be shut down by the health department. Absolutely appallingly dirty and smelly. You have to be an idiot to eat here.

I would rather drive to another city to buy Italian oils than subject myself to inhaling the vapors of rotten meat!
