a cake for friday they will make it thursday and let it sit behind the counter until friday when you pick it up (there bakery is so nasty) my sister use to work there,no one wheres gloves, there daughter is a ass all she does is sit out back and smoke, my sister said she never washes her hands when she comes in from smoke

PLEASE DO NOT GO THERE GO TO CAKES PLUS

Kalupa's: South Tampa's Family Bakery. My family has been going to Kalupa's for years and my kids can identify a Kalupa's birthday cake in one taste. But I confess, they had a lot of practice in South Tampa..

When my daughter comes in from California, going to Kalupas and filling a box with cupcakes is a high priority.

I never had any problems with orders at this bakery.

Extraordinary Customer Service!. My mother loves Kalupa's Bakery. For Mother's Day I decided to treat my mother to an assortment of bakery from Kalupa's. I called the owner, Susan, from Illinois to place the order. She was so helpful by suggesting what pastries my mother may like. Susan hand delivered the bakery to my mother and even took the time to talk to her. (My mother can no longer drive to the bakery.) Susan called me to let me know that she delivered the bakery to my mother. The charge was less than sending flowers-that die. I think that everyone should go to Kalupa's Bakery!

Staff Friendly, Owner very Rude. I don't usually write reviews but had to take the time to do this because I have had several bad experiences with Kalupas over the past few years. I gave 2 stars because the cakes taste good but the rude customer service is unbearable. Here are a few stories to explain my rating:

1-The owner (I believe her name is Susan) is always short and rude, both in person and on the phone. You would think spending $50-$100 on a cake would warrant some common politeness to paying and repeat customers.

2. I went in last year to order my husband's birthday cake and was being helped by the owner when another customer walked in the bakery. The other customer stated she was in a hurry so the owner told me she would be right back after she helped the other customer. I waited at least five minutes and then walked out. I drove straight to Alessi Bakery and got a wonderful and delicious cake.

3. I ordered a shower cake a few years ago and picked it up the day of the shower (a Sunday). I took it home and the cake slid into the side and the icing got very messed up. My husband took it back to Kalupas and asked for them to fix it (even offered to pay) the owner refused and said the cake was in perfect condition when we picked it up and they could not help. He then went to the Publix bakery because the shower was an hour away. They fixed it quickly, beautifully, and for FREE. It shows a lot about Publix's customer service that they would fix another store's cake.

4. I went to Kalupas to order my son's birthday cake and was going to bring back some additional art work to be put on the cake. The owner left me several rude messages and when I called back to say I would bring in the art, she said the cake maker didn't have time to read/review that sort of thing, What???

They only reason I keep going back is because of the location. As soon as the new Alessi location opens up on Kennedy, I will never set foot through the Kalupas door again.

Disgusting attitudes! Rude! Nasty! Wow!. Who needs to get treated badly for a stale muffin, anyway? And it's the OWNER that's so BAD! What is wrong with her?

Worst treatment ever!!. I went in to get a cake made as a surprise for my wife,I met with the owner who had one of the nastiest attitudes I've ever come into contact with.I felt as if she didn't believe that I could afford one of her over priced cakes.I'll never go back and never ever tell anyone I know to go there either.

Rude and Condescending. Spoke to Susan numerous times on the phone regarding a custom cake for my daughter's 1st birthday. Very nice and helpful on the phone but I wanted to go in to work with her in person so that she could get an idea of what I really wanted for the cake. Upon entering the store, we were not greeted (even though they had no customers) -- we had to go to the counter and wait until someone came to ask what we needed. Upon meeting Susan, she was not friendly and her tone and mannerism gave off the impression that I could not afford a $200 cake and if that was the case then she wouldn't even run it by her baker. Also very rude about flavor suggestions. I advised that the $200 is no problem -- so she goes back discusses with her baker and comes back to tell me that (even though I am there over a month in advance) that she doesn't know if her baker has the time to make the cake I am looking for. I ended up leaving and going to Cakes Plus (located on 1732 S. Dale Maby Hwy) -- which was a totally different atmosphere upon entering...I ended up paying double the cost I would've paid by going with Kalupa's but its well worth it! I would not recommend Kalupa's to anybody, given the treatment I was given upon entering their establishment. Go with Cakes Plus...very nice and is also family owned and operated.

Best Gingerbread Men. Hi, Mr. and Mrs. Kalupa make some of the very best baked goods I have ever had. I know this from personal experience. My name is Pam and the Kalupas are my Aunt and Uncle. I may live over 900 miles away, but I have been going to Kalupa's Bakery for almost all of my life. Every summer until I graduated high school my mom, Mrs. Kalupa's sister, and I would travel to visit them and have all kinds of wonderful treats. They make the best cakes and breads, as well as other pasteries. One of the best things they make are their gingerbread cookies. They are by far my mom's favorite(I like them too, of course). With a nice hot cup of coffee they make the most wonderful breakfast. If you are ever in the Tampa Bay area and have a sweet tooth(as many of us do), check out Kalupa's Bakery, they can't be beat.

Beware of special orders. No one can dispute the fact that Kalupa's bakes wonderful cakes. However, I will never again recommend that someone place a special order. Recently, I came to pick-up a custom ordered birthday cake at the agreed upon date and time only to find that the cake had never been made. Mrs. Kalupa herself took the order and stated she remembered the order vaguely...but the cake nor order were anywhere to be found. To make matters worse, they did not offer me a substitute cake. The birthday party was ruined.
