In Short – Owner Sonny Tillman has been serving the same Southern barbecue and fixings since 1968. A common roadside stop, Sonny's offers low prices and barbecue; roomy booths, wagon-wheel chandeliers and homey craft art are the standard dining room decor. House barbecue sauce, available sweet, regular or hot, spices up large helpings of smoked beef, pork, chicken, turkey and ribs. Sides like fresh fried okra, onion rings and barbecue beans complement the entrees.

Every where notices as if every client were criminals. $100 verified by management, credit cards with photo id, $20 only at walk up window, best of all cameras everywhere and then a friendly reminder poster at the exit door. Criminals will be caught. The food is disgusting and no wonder they are worried about their clients not paying. Better they go into the check cashing business as they seem to have forgot about friendly southern hospitality and good bar b que.
- Pros: won't go there again
- Cons: feels like a check cashing center
Far Better and Safer BBQ Elsewhere!!
by bobbelden2469
Sonny's Barbecue is to BBQ what Waffle House is to breakfast: low rent food served to typically low-rent patrons that you'd be far better off avoiding all together. I went once with some friends and the ribs were almost meatless, very dry and tough. My friend's sliced pork was also tough. The beans and cole slaw were pretty good. There is far better real southern BBQ to be had for just about $1-$2 more per plate at places like First Choice or Campbell's. It'll not only taste far better, but will likely be far safer. Sonny's has a reputation of people getting sick on their food over the years, throughout the Tampa Bay area. So be careful!! I'd gladly spend a few bucks more to avoid hurling and being miserable for a day or two!
- Pros: Low price
- Cons: Poor quality, tough sliced pork and tough meatless ribs. Possible health risk!
