Tampa >Kobe' Japanese Steak House
Kobe New Tampa Location.
We took our daughter to Kobe New Tampa for her 18th birthday. She had been before at the Dale Mabry location and loved the experience. New Tampa is closer so we decided to go there.
That was my first mistake. We had reservations and arrived about 10 mins early however we had to wait about 25 minutes to be seated.
Once seated they began to serve the soup. The waiter spilled hot soup all over my daughter and I guess in embarrasment he left the room. Not one employee came to ask my daughter if she was ok or needed napkins. My daughter was embarassed and burnt at this point. The soup reuined her outfit and her blackberry bold that she got for her birthday that day. Mind you our service is through Verizon and I used my upgrade to get the phone. When we confronted the manager she said there is nothing she can do other than have us fill out an incident report. At this point I was unwilling to fill out anything. You could have came to our table and asked her if she was ok or offered up some napkins at least.
I contacted the district manager and explained the situation. I also told him I know people make mistakes and I don't want to be over compensated however I am going to ask that they pay the fee for replacing the phone. Keep in mind a bold cost hundreds of dollars. I am not an unreasonable person and told him I did not want that much money just pay the insurance cost of getting the phone replaced. $95.00 He agreed to that and said he would put a check in the mail. Well it has been over a month and nothing! He lied to get me off the phone basicly.
Now let's talk about the bill.
For some reason the separated the kids checks from ours and brought us ours first. I used my debit card and added in a 10.00 tip. Why did I tip? Well because I am not unreasonable I know accidents happen and this kid was young. So then they brought our the kids check after they took ours away and included the tip for the entire party. So when it was all said and done an awlful experience lead us to a tip of over $20.00, reunied phone, lies and poor management. I will NEVER dine at any Kobe again!
Very Rude Service.
We have just returned from our 5th visit from Kobe. The first four times were fine. However, this 5th time, the chef decided to allocate a portion of our meal to other diners. We had paid for 3 meals (us and our daughter). Another couple paid for 2 meals and decided to share with their daughter. They were told about a plate sharing charge. They said they didn't want to pay it. The manager decided that was okay and they wouldn't be charged. Their daughter said she only liked carrots, not other vegetables. So, the chef took carrots that should have been on the plates of my family, and gave them all to her. Then, the chef gave their daughter rice on her plate, plus a full bowl of rice. So, they have paid for 2 bowls, and received 4. They did not eat the fourth, it went to waste. Meanwhile, he shorted my bowl by giving it a VERY light pack and filling it significantly under the rim. So we had paid for 3 bowls, and received 2 & 1/2. He still had some rice left after everyone had been served, so I told him "I like rice." He pointed to my meager bowl and said "There is yours" and gave the remaining rice to another man, who had been served an appropriately full bowl, already. Now it may seem silly to discuss carrots and rice, but this IS a restaurant and an expensive one at that. I paid for my meal and I expect to receive it. If they want to give a free meal to another customer, I don't care. I DO care that they expect ME to pay for it out of my purchase. The server cleaning up at the end (We were rushed, by the way. They brought out boxes right after the grill was cleaned and were shoving them in our faces, so I didn't get a chance to finish my meal.) over heard my husband and I discussing it and asked. We told her exactly what happened. She was unimpressed and assured me everything was fair. Of course, since she wasn't there during the meal, I don't see how she could state that with any degree of confidence, but she did anyway. It is the chef's job to serve what has been ordered. It is not his job to decide who gets what based on who is better looking or who he likes more or whatever criteria he was using. It should also be noted that the
chef complained bitterly about his previous customers while he was cooking. I found this rather unprofessional. My family paid the most at the table (we ordered combos, unlike the man who got the extra and paid for every person in our party, unlike the other family) and received the least. Why this restaurant wants to reward the family who refuses to pay and punish those who are willing to pay is unknown to me. They did have 2 opportunities to correct the problem. They turned both down. I am offended at how rudely I was treated and will not return to this restaurant.
So Dissappointing sad to say. The food is so - so. The meat is NOT Kobe. If your going to name your restaurant Kobe, you should have Kobe meat available. My main issue with this restaurant and we have been here more than once is the place is so LOUD you can not even think. Also, I think they sit too many people at a table. You are so crowded in it is uncomfortable to even eat.
Free Birthday Dinner Lures You In. I've been there for mine and my boyfriend's birthday, because they have a coupon in the paper, free birthday dinner with purchase of another entree. Both times we've eaten there, the services is AWFUL. On a Thursday night, we had to wait 15 minutes to be seated, but then another 30 minutes for the cook to arrive. While the cook was great, and food is good, they don't give you enough rice and veggies. I've never left with a smile on my face. Oh and the cloth napkins smelled sour. I think it's a management problem with staffing.
The Best of the Best. This is one of the best Japanese restraunts I have ever eaten ate.
