Something Deliciously Different. My wife and I like trying different things, and this was our first Indian food experience, so please keep in mind I can't compare this to other Indian restaurants, just food in general.

One of the first things I noticed was Indian people eating at this restaurant, so I thought it must be authentic. I'm not sure if that's a prejudiced viewpoint, but I think the same about Italian, Mexican, etc. cuisines as well.

The food was great, I can't remember the name of the dish I had (some chicken dish, under the chicken section), and my wife thoroughly enjoyed her chicken selection as well. I ordered mine "spicy" and it was just the right amount of spice (I like heat). We also ordered the bread to dip into the sauces in our dishes, and it turned out to be a perfect complement to the meal. I washed everything down with a Kingfish beer, and all was well with the world. We are coming back here without a doubt....a nice change of pace from the same-ol' bar and grill's we normally go to.

The only thing that surprised me was the price...most of the dishes start at $12.95 which is not bad at all, but when I read other reviews saying "inexpensive" or "affordable", it kind of threw me for a loop. No big deal though. Highly Recommended!

Indian Cuisine Newbie -- Tandoori Is Incredible!. Taj was my first experience with Indian cuisine and I must say, wow! The tandoori chicken was phenomenal and I try not to use adjectives like that so gratuitously (or even adverbs like "gratuitously" for that matter). The bread is incredible. If you're a newbie like me and have been thinking about delving into Indian fare, check this place out. The experience was great.

Rude waiter and What about the Indians!!. Who ever answers the phone, which I believe is the is maybe assistant manager/waiter of the resturant needs to find another job. He is rude on the phone and when he served us. The coke was flat we requested for another one and of course flat again. I asked for garlic Nan and go plain. On a whole this resturant I thinks caters to more the to the American crowd than Indian. Not to offend anyone by that statement. I think Taj should do a better job catering and paying attention to both. Resturant ambience is good, nice decor but need really improve on service and quality of food!!!

Very good Indian. I have frequented Taj for over 10 years now. It used to have an amazing lunch buffet, but it seems that now the buffet caters to Americans' desire for less spicy food. Dinner can be ordered as spicy as you look, and the quality of the dishes is a notch or two above the other Indian restaurants in Tampa. Taj is clean and has a pleasant decor and atmosphere--this can't be said for many places. It's a great place for takeout or dining in. And I suppose if your palate isn't accustomed to spicy foods the lunch buffet is nice, especially on weekends.

How spicy do you really like it?. Some Like It Hot
Taj serves up some of the best Indian cuisine in Tampa, and it can be ordered mild or extra spicy, depending on your tastes. Just be sure to make reservations--this trendy little spot near the University of South Florida packs 'em in.

The Food
Curry dishes feature the usual chicken and beef, with lamb, seafood, and goat as added extras. There's a long list of vegetarian dishes prepared with eggplant, okra, cauliflower, potatoes and fried cottage cheese in a variety of sauces. The flat bread (nan) is more appetizing than you'd think and great for dipping in the extra sauces. Try the garlic nan for extra flavor.

Starters
Appetizers include a wide selection of pakoras (batter fried veggies and meats). Taj also offers a tandoori (Indian barbecue) specialty section that includes some of the juiciest and most tender kebabs you've ever tasted. For dessert, try the lassi, a chilled yogurt drink with fruit flavors. It's the perfect thing to cool your tongue.

love this place. My boyfriend and I love this place for something out of the ordinary. We took his parents here for his mothers birthday and now they drive 35 miles just to dine here. It is a very small, quaint and dark setting. The food if fabulous. You must try the sag chicken- my favorite. This is elegant dining without the fuss and expense.

num nums. I think this places lunch buffet is the best thing going. When I eat Indian I love to be able to sample from an array of dishes as opposed to ordering one thing - so lunch there is perfect. :) I will say it's always hard to go there for dinner and order just one thing - but it's always good, quality and well priced.

The staff is always courteous and helpful.

It seems like it is also a popular place for large families to go, but we've never had to wait to be seated.
