Awful service and the food was overpriced and bland. Would not return.
We placed our order with our server who brought us fresh rolls and water. After waiting several more minutes, we realized she had forgotten about our initial order of a glass of Kronen beer. After asking about it, she said she forgot and then brought it. We had to track her down again to order another glass of a different beer. Our waitress then disappeared for another 30 minutes or so until we had to again track her down for the check and to get our food wrapped to go. At that time, we also ordered one iced coffee to go. We waited and after several minutes, she brought the check to sign, but said she was still working on the iced coffee and wrapping up the food.
Finally, she brought our food wrapped up in a bag along with an iced coffee. However, she said that the restaurant had run out of "to go" cups and had instead put the iced coffee into a plastic container. She handed me a small plastic container with a sealed plastic lid on top and a straw. I had no idea how we were supposed to drink this - I suppose we were supposed to cut a hole in the top and put a straw through it. However, had I known that there were no more "to go" cups, I certainly would have cancelled my order for iced coffee.
We left immediately after and I was forced to go across the street to the Nature's Table and buy a cup from them to transfer my iced coffee "soup" into a normal cup so I could drink it before the ice melted. It was completely ridiculous and the Nature's Table staff were appalled that Cafe BT would have given one of its customers a plastic container with iced coffee. We were still charged full price for the iced coffee even though it was not in a proper cup and even though it was less coffee than normal since it was in a small plastic container.
I would recommend going to Timpano's instead or Indochinois if you are really craving Vietnamese food.
I went to Cafe B.T. in Old Hyde Park about a year ago for a book club meeting. Since it was a Monday night I did not want to spend over $15 for a meal, preferring to save the pricier endeavors for a weekend night out. Still I was hungry and perused the menu for substantial eats to get me through the book club discussion. I was completly surprised by the prices and finally settled on a $12 salad that I hoped would be bigger than I anticipated. It wasn't. Let me first preface that I get full very fast and almost always bring half my dinner home for the next day.
After tip, this tiny basic salad with no expensive ingrediants whatsoever, had cost me $15. and i was still hungry. I glanced greedily at my friend's tiny portions of very expensive entrees, hoping for a bite. But no one could afford to share at these portions and prices! I couldn't wait to get home and cook a real dinner.
The Main Reason Restaurant's Don't Make It!. Poor service. What a way to ruin a cozy, cute atmosphere paired with unbelievably tasty food. Everything we tasted on the menu was superb! But the service was subpar. We even tried to return a drink we did not like (it was way too sweet and filled with syrup) and it was refused by management to replace it or take it off the bill. The manager accually argued with us! Even though the food is so good, we will not be back.
Nondescript, nearly invisible, this tiny restaurant still attracts the area's
most sophisticated diners with terrific, truly outstanding creations..
One ordinarily doesn't often find the cutting edge of the culinary arts in a place so utterly mundane--a grubby, half-empty shopping center with cars rolling right up to your outdoor table. Despite its appearance, this is where the area's finest chefs dine when they're not working. Particularly tasty is the duck breast in fresh mango sauce, served with asparagus and jasmine-scented rice. The salads are to die for, the soups exemplary and entrées a delight.
Best New Experience Ever. A year ago, we visited from Seattle, Washington and brought my boyfriends parents from Mexico City, Mexico and have been waiting since then to return. My parents went a year ago as well and are headed back this week. I am so jealous. The food was like nothing I have ever experienced before. It was so good, I felt like my senses were more acute and aware than when dining in typical restaurants. The service was awesome, friendly, curteous and were able to make intelligent suggestions, they were knowledgable about their menu. Dinner was perfect with a bottle of Veuve Clique. This place was priced right. What a wonderful experience
