WORST Experience Ever!.
I find it EXTREMELY hard to believe that this company's true review status is 5 stars. Not only has my experience been absolutely awful, I have talked to at least 2 other people who've had similar terrible experiences with this place.
My husband and I first contacted Continental in early March. We were looking for a specific diamond and they advised that they could order it for us. They did, we went to pick it up and it was perfect.
When we went to pick up the diamond we worked with Sue to pick out an engagement ring and wedding bands. When it was all said and done the price that they wanted for the jewelry was just out of our budget. We relayed this to Sue and she immediately copped an attitude. We had already spent a large sum of money purchasing the diamond through them and this lady was acting like we had come in and just wasted her time! In the end we wound up picking out two black diamond bands that were perfect but would needed to be re-sized. We left with a promised delivery date of two weeks. This was early March. I advised Sue that it was of the utmost importance that we get the rings back ASAP as our wedding date was April 2nd. Two weeks came and went, no phone call, no email, nothing. I called several times but received no returned call. I kept trying and finally got in touch with Sue around the 28th. She then told me that it was going to be three weeks and I was advised of that in the beginning. She's telling me this as I'm looking at the receipt clearly marked with a two week time frame! Well, I need the rings; time is getting short so fine, three weeks. On Friday, April 1st my rings were still not ready! I'm getting married the following day and I have NO bands!! Sue "graciously" gives us the two ill fitting bands that they had in the store as "loaner" rings for the wedding. Yes, I had to get married using LOANER rings.
The wedding takes place and after the honeymoon we go and take the loaners back and pick up my bands. Now this is where the story really gets bad, believe it or not.
We picked up the bands on April 14th. A little more than month later two diamonds fell out of the bands! I was beside myself. I was so upset that I could not deal with this company anymore. My husband took the bands in and they said "oh the jeweler didn't tighten the diamonds after he re-sized it." No apology, nothing. They did fix it but it took over three weeks and we had to go to the store because nobody called us. When we went into the store they said "oh yes the rings have been here." Come on!
We took the rings only to have to return them in July because 4 MORE diamonds had fallen out!! At this point I was done. They have obviously sold us an inferior product. So we took the rings back and demanded a refund. This time we worked with Kristie, who was the only one in the entire debacle that ever apologized. However, even as she's apologizing she's telling us that the owner "probably won't give us a refund." Excuse me? We have had these rings for less than 5 months and the diamonds have fallen out twice but the owner will not give us a refund? She said that she would "see what she could do." She also stated that the bands were "not for everyday use" and that the salesperson should have told us that. Really? So it was a tiny oversight then when we mentioned MULTIPLE times that we were purchasing them to be used as wedding bands? Kristie finally gets back to us stating that the owner (Glenn) will offer us a "store credit." My husband advised that was not acceptable and asked for the owner's number. This was in mid-July. We have tried repeatedly since then to get in touch with the owner or Kristie and have not had one response. It is now almost mid-September.
Please, take your business to a company that gives a crap about you, especially if you are in the market for an engagement/wedding rings. Do not waste your time and money with this company.
Our experience with Continental started off good... my fiance purchased my engagement from them without any issues. He got it on a solitaire, allowing us to go back and select the band I wanted. We did that without an issue, though I can't say they had the best selection I'd ever seen. I didn't like that the price on the band was twice as much as it was... I don't like having to negotiate for things. I like to look at the price tag and know that's how much it costs. I'm glad I said something about the price being too much allowing the sales girl to say "Oh, the price is only half of that, so don't pay attention to the price tag", because otherwise I probably would have politely told them I didn't find anything I liked and gone elsewhere. Anyway, trading in the solitaire band was not an issue - they gave us the full credit of the solitaire and transferred the diamond to the band I selected that night.
2 months later, a side-stone fell out of the ring. When we returned it to the store, the girl looked at it and made it seem as though it was my fault. I'd like to point out that I telecommute full time and only wear the ring when I'm out and about, which is not often. I don't wear it to the gym and usually don't bother to put it on when I run to the grocery store or anything. Regardless, they said don't worry about it and fixed it for us. I think it took 5 days.
3 months later, a stone fell out again. This time when we brought it to be fixed, we asked if they could give us an estimate on making a wedding band to match. We were told it would take about a week. We got a receipt that said our drop off date (7/27) and the "promised date" was 8/10. We looked past the fact that was more like two weeks than one week. Well, 8/10 came and went. Meanwhile, no one ever contacted us to let us know it was going to take longer. We had to keep calling. Once we called and had to call back on another day because the girl that took the ring wasn't there (no one else can look it up for us??) Other times we left messages for her and got no return call. We'd call again and she would say "OMG! I was JUST about to call you" (that got old after the 2nd time) Finally yesterday (8/19) at the 3 week point, I called first thing in the morning and was told I'd get a call back from our salesperson. I called back again around 3:30 when I hadn't heard from anyone and got our girl and told her we wanted the ring back, estimate or no estimate. When I complained that we were told it would take a week - if we knew it was going to take over 3 weeks, we wouldn't have dropped it off at that time, I was told that "things take time". Keep in mind, this is just for an estimate -- how the heck long would it take to make the ring??
So today (8/20) my fiance called and asked when he could pick up the ring, he was told NEXT TUESDAY. (8/24) Um - so it takes FIVE days to get my ring back to their store? Is it being sent by pony express? Oh - and no apologies whatsoever were given to him for the delayed time they'd had it beyond what they told us.
Bottom line, I've been engaged for six months, and by the time I get the ring back next week, Continental Jewelers will have had the ring in their shop for over a month of that time. Maybe I'm off, but I think it is INSANE that 3 weeks is not long enough to give someone an ESTIMATE on how much it will cost to make a band.
An engaged girl wants to wear her engagement ring... especially when she has bridal showers and bachelorette parties to attend. So if you're looking to be get an estimate, make sure you have nowhere to go with the ring on for a few weeks. And make sure you don't really care what their "promised date" is on the slip they give you. Very, VERY disappointing considering all the wonderful things we had heard and read about them. My engagement ring is BEAUTIFUL and we had already picked out my fiance's band, but we'll be going elsewhere for both our bands. They are not the only jeweler in town.
Will work with your budget. Very helpful and knowledgeable staff. They have a great selection of wedding bands and can customize. Little pricey but they will work with your budget without making you feel bad if you can't afford the most expensive thing.
Absolutely terrific. Absolutely terrific. I've been a customer of Sue's for more than 15 years. Sue is always 100% professional and knowledgeable. I have a small business that I've owned for 15 years and if Sue was not the very best at meeting my requirements, I would not have continued to purchase jewelry from you. Thank you for having such a competent, professional woman on staff.
