What People Are Saying About Charley's Steak House & Market Fresh Fish

The Scene – From its energetic valets to the beveled private dining room, Charley's caters to a big crowd of locals accustomed to being pampered. Typical of its emphasis on personal service is the row of private lockers in the foyer for those who entertain regularly and want to keep their favorite vintage handy. The building is new, but its warren of separate dining rooms, done in rich wood paneling, are lit by big windows framing a colorful profusion of blooms outside. – – The Food – The restaurant's signature is its huge, wood-burning grill, which leaves a…
What a terrible service!

Waiters are are extremely arrogant and believe they know more than anyone, so they treat customers scornfully. They need to remember that customers pay their salaries and keep the business running.
Laughable!

Came highly recommended by a co-worker. Visited 4/2/11.
-Hostess was average-they were late for our reservations & my husband couldn't get service at the bar (looking for green olives-3 months prego & baby was not pleased w/ the wait).
-Waitress was friendly at first & didn't push the wine list. Seemed to know her speech well....and I do say speech, not presentation. Less than "fine dinning" standard on service as she leaned on our table trying to commit our order to memory.
-Steak presenter had forgotten a number of his lines & made us feel uncomfortable. Steaks on display looked dull, fatty, & lacked good variety. They also brag about having hormone free cows while bragging about having grain fed cows. Need to learn a little more about corn fed cows before promoting. Promote cut of steer fed beer daily-so much fat you could hardly see any red meat. The filet on the display was far from what reached my plate.
-Ordered Filet/T-Bone. Cooked to order-med. rare & fairly close. Little over done. Sides were additional charge. Steaks were over priced & had way to much fat on them aka "marble". Dress it up any way you want to, they should have been trimmed. Appearance was repulsive-almost looked regurgitated. No effort was made & meat could not hold its own. Paid $35.00 for my 10oz filet. Tasted like a sirloin. Could have gotten better at outback. Husband's T-bone was better, but still bad. T-bone was $30.00. Waste.
-Sides: (round 1) Cream Spinach, "Smashed" Potatoes, Shrimp & Scallop Scampi. Took one bite of Spinach & almost spit it out. Really could not believe how bad it was. Really. Sent it back to exchange. Potatoes didn't arrive with the rest of our meal, when we asked for them she brought them to the table looking disgusted with what she was about to serve, stirring them right next to us told us "well there looks like there is a huge clump of garlic butter right in the middle of these". The level of grease coated my mouth after the first bite & we sent those back as well. The potatoes were literally green-absolutely awful!
HOWEVER, much praise for the scampi. Flavorful, great presentation, aromatic. I was very impressed. Large portion for $14.00 and would be the only thing I would recommend.
-Sides (round 2) Asparagus---WOW, can you really make it that bad? Came out without the sauce & what appeared to be a slice of Kraft cheese. We didn't eat any of it. One bite each was MORE than enough. I didn't know you could actually make $7.00 asparagus that blan. Potatoes-much better without the garlic grease but far under par. No effort was put into these and the presentation said they cared little about impressing you.
-We were so turned off we didn't order dessert! We went to Wendy's to get a $1 Frosty, a better value than anything else we had all night!
-No one ever apologized for the terrible food that we were obviously unhappy with. The staff was almost offended we didn't like their food & the check was over $100.00-not worth $45.00
-Atmosphere-people must go here for the bar. Its loud. Intrusive. The menus are way over sized. And most of the staff could probably be found at Steak-N-Shake or Apple Bee's. No quality at all.
We will never eat here again. This experience was laughable at best. Instead of enjoying an evening of conversation we discussed how terrible the food was, how much of a waste of money it was, & how we should have gone somewhere else. My husband even at one point said "we can get up and leave right now & find another place if you want". Pitiful! If someone gives this place a good review they must not fancy a quality steak or a fine dining experience.
If you are thinking about heading here just make a U-turn and head to Bern's or somewhere else where you will actually get something for your money-effort, presentation, & a better steak. Thumbs way, way down on this one!
PS-He will be telling his co-worker Monday that he owes him $115.00 for this wasted dinner.
should be "Charley's Dessert House"

NO STARS for Charley's. Salad was put in a food processor and ground to small bits- all 4 steaks at our table were cooked 'well done' even though they were ordered 'medium'. Menu's were physically huge, tables were small and awkward. Everything was WAY overpriced, and the waiter pushed items that weren't on the menu that no one knew the price of. My filet looked like a cow prostate gland and smelled like a dirty tampon along with being cooked dark brown inside. No one at our table was charged for their steaks. The side dishes were uninteresting and could be prepared better by a 10 year old. Have wanted to go there for 6 years and will now laugh every time I pass it on the highway. DISGUSTING!!! Complimentary dessert plate was pretty good, but I cooked grits and eggs when I got home just to fill the empty hole in my stomach.
EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING!

Based on positive reviews, we went to Charley's last night to celebrate a birthday and had high expectations. The atmosphere was nice (except that it was extremely cold and I was shivering during most of the meal). The hostess was friendly, but the waiter was like an unpersonable robot giving a canned speech. I'm a bread lover, but the bread (sourdough) was disappointing - four of the five people at our table didn't care for the taste. The salad was 99% lettuce and I've had better at Wendy's. Au Gratin potatoes were tasteless and undercooked. "Vegetables" literally consisted of a piece of a green, red & yellow pepper and two onion wedges (not my idea of mixed vegetables). The steaks were good, but definitely not exceptional and not at all comparable to aged beef I've enjoyed elsewhere. Gator appetizer was dry. Soup not available. All in all, we won't be going back to Charley's. I don't mind paying a high price for exceptional food, but this food just wasn't anywhere near exceptional and for the cost, I feel like I was robbed. I'd recommend Flemings, which is EXCEPTIONAL in EVERY aspect. Or, for a excellent meal (not so much the atmosphere), I'd recommend Grillsmith. Sorry Charley!!
- Pros: None
- Cons: Food Quality compared to Food Price, Loud & Noisy, COLD,
