Horrendous. I had not been to Oystercatchers since they had redone it. I went for the Sunday Brunch as we always did for the fantastic Champagne Brunch. Unfortunately, that brunch no longer exists! They have traded in the chocolate fountains for a dry assortment of cakes and cold creme brulee. The omelette station is now some sort of organic two-long-to-remember name that consists of your choice of chicken eggs, goose eggs, or quail eggs with choices for an omelette that would make any child or halfway sane person's pallet groan in agony. The pasta station is now precooked pastas that were less than appetizing. I gave this place a half star and that's because the champagne mimosas are still good. Let's say I drank my $45 worth!!
Sensational seafood. I have been living in Tampa for over 8 years and this is most definately the number one restaurant, when it comes down to seafood. Since the renovation this restaurant has stepped up their game. The selection is mouthwatering and the fish fresh and top notch. They serve wild salmon and agruably the best groper in Florida. Make sure when you vist to try also their desserts. It's not normal to have such beautiful desserts in a seafood restaurant. The sticky date pudding is to die for!!! When I dined, the chef also made his way thru the restaurant to check if everybody had a good time. Kudos also to the service team, who made our evening a memorable one and never missed a beat. I will be back!
Great service, beautiful view, excellent food.. My wife and I were invited to Oystercatchers by a friend as we passed through Tampa on a trip. The decor is beautiful with an excellent menu. We were seated promptly and spent about two hours eating and chating with my old friend. We were never rushed and were served by a friendly efficient server. One of the reasons for our trip was to eat at different restaurants and this was, by far, the most enjoyable time we had on our trip. Of course, the company was part of it, but the food and service was outstanding. I will eat there again if ever near Tampa and certainly recommend it to all.
Excellent atmosphere and elegant establishment. The staff was very inviting, the food has definitley taken a step up. The renovation done on the restaurant really makes this place stand out as one of the ebst in tampa. I go there when my clients come in from out of town and it is a great place to impress upscale clientele
first real dinner date, so i wanted intimacy.
oh my, such a romantic room here. i feel like my date truly wants to impress me. and he has.
the table was set with cloth napkins and candles, the lighting is romantic all around the room, we were dropped off at the door and my dates car just whisked away (by magic). we are escorted to our table, already set for two. attentive wait staff. i remember that. orders for fish dishes. done.
tender fish. fresh veggies. waterfront windows to look through, to distract me from my thoughts. about my date, and later. naughty girl. so wonderful is this food. tender, delicious. so romantic.
Bad experience , price,. This is a overated , overpriced eatery. Going by the reviews we went for our 50th anniversary dinner. The salmon was charred on top and had a burnt flavor, not what you expect for salmon in this price range. The ribeye had good flavor but was ordered medium and came back well done. Service was very good . atmosphere typical waterfornt. nothing special. Had it not been a special day we would have walked out.
Terrible service, nice view. We dined here for the first time this evening. Our entrees took a full hour to arrive, and when they did my husband's swordfish chop was raw in the middle. Unfortunately, he ate some before he realized it, and is extremely sick now. Service overall was terrible, we will not be returning.
A stunning waterfront setting, creative dishes and romantic ambience add up to one of Tampa's top spots on the water..
The Scene
The restaurant's property adjoins a bird sanctuary that overlooks Tampa Bay. If you're waiting for a table, you can walk out on the dock and see birds like terns, pelicans and red-wing blackbirds. The inside is decorated with a pretty palette of sandy Florida colors that enhance a classy, but not stuffy, dining room. It's dressy, but not lavishly so--upscale, but low-key.
The Food
The seafood-heavy menu features a selection of steak and chicken dishes, plus reliable soups and salads complimented by tasty bread. Fresh fish is the specialty, including grouper, swordfish, salmon, tuna, snapper and more, served sauteed, mesquite-grilled, blackened, poached or broiled with a choice of creamy dill sauce, berry balsamic reduction, scotch bonnet tartar or bourbon barbecue sauce. And don't forget to order dessert; the Key lime pie is excellent.
Seafood is great!. Oyster Catchers is not for those who like to pile up their plate with jumbo fried food - the seafood is nicely grilled (or cooked to your preference) and most often is outstanding. The only problem we've ever had is some inconsistency - sometimes fabulous, other times less than fabulous but always good. The portobello mushroom appetizer (if they still have it) is fantastic. We have always had excellent service. It is the restaurant I choose to celebrate my birthday - not stuffy but elegantly casual.
A fine place. I have been going to Oystercatchers for many years and everytime I go the service is outstanding and the food is excellent. The oysters are the best there , nice and thick , packed with flavor. The Oyster's Rockefeller they have is the best i've ever had (and i've had it all over). The crab cakes are excellent and the brunch is outstanding. I have one thing to say - every restaurant has its bad moments, Iam a food connoisseur and this place is definately one you don't want to miss out on.
