Worst customer service ever! Nearly left my mother without a car for her week long vacation. Amazing how no other rental car place requires the $500 insurance deposit but Payless does...also funny how it isnt mentioned anywhere in the paperwork until you are 45 minutes from the airport and basically stuck without any options. When she questioned it, they said "your reservation is no longer valid, good luck finding a car at the airport".
You get what you payless for. I was asked if I wanted an upgrade for about $10.00 extra a day as well as a ton of insurance. Did not bite on any of those as my insurance already covered everything-but wait there's more! The upgrade was for air conditioning AND power door locks and guess what? The car had them anyway! Jerks were going to charge me for what I already was going to get. Second they placed the tire insurance on the form and as I checked everything before I initialed it I said 'I already told you i did not want this tire insurance'. She tore up the form and redid it.They tried to sneak it in! Third they still have not given me back the $500 that they took for the debit card so I filed a complaint with the attorney general in Florida.
MOST REDICULOUS EXPERIENCE RENTING A CAR. MOST REDICULOUS EXPERIENCE RENTING A CAR IN MY ENTIRE LIFE!!!!! I had to call 3 times before someone finally answered the phone while we waited for the shuttle. Total wait was 45 minutes. Shuttle driver was nice, friendly and helpful (only positive). While signing paperwork, front desk agent tried to up-sell a car grade but I declined. Then, he offered additional insurance, but I declined again. Then he began to harrass me and tried to frighten me into buying the additional inurance by telling me that my insurance will not cover the total charges if I did have an accident (which I KNOW is wrong since my husband had a car accident 3 months ago in a rental in the same city!). They treated me like I was stupid and didn't understand my own insurance policy. They were condescending and arrogant and essentially told me that I was wrong and did not know what I was talking about because they are "in the business" and I am not. Then, I was told that if I declined the insurance, I would have to pay a $500 deposit to be held on my debit card for up to 2 weeks. I told them that I did not have to pay that when I last rented a car from one of their competitors a few blocks away, but both agents then told that I did and I must not have realized it. Then they told me that the other vendor also ran a credit check on me and I just didn't know. I check...not true! I told them that I definitely would have realized it if I had $500 being held on my bank card. They basically told me that I didn't know what I was talking about...they are right...I am wrong. I ASSURE YOU, I AM NOT WRONG! Finally, after becoming extremely frustrated, I seriously considered having them drive me back to the airport where I could get a car from another vendor and told them so. But, we were exhausted from traveling over the last 8 hours and my daughter who is 34 weeks pregnant was swelling up and our aunt who has medical issues that were causing her to feel faint just wanted to get on the road so we decided to turn the other cheek and go. It took looking over 2 cars with a fine tooth comb (both of which had dings and paint chips, scratches, cigarette burns, bent rim/hubcaps, and were not very clean. I was terrified to leave the lot as I had to sign a waiver stating that I was responsible for any damages, locked in/lost keys, tire issues, loss of rental time if car was returned in a condition that required it needing maintenance, etc. Yes, these are "normal" documents, but the means to which they went to explain to me how seriously they take their contract (which was largely due to my decision not to purchase their additional insurance!), had me afraid to drive the stupid car! When I was signing the final page, I was asked if I wanted to use their gas re-fill service. I declined as it was near $8 per gallon. Then the agent said to me in a highly disgusted tone that I would need to bring the car back on full, showing a gas receipt from a station within a few miles of their location after filling up and "topping off" the gas. I said, you do know that "topping off" gas is bad for the environment, right, I mean it's written on every pump? He said, that was their policy and acted like I was crazy. Then he proceeded to tell me that if people returned the cars on full but didn't top them off, eventually after so many uses, the car wouldn't be on full anymore. I was like, WHAT??? That is the dumbest thing I have EVER heard! If the car is returned on full, the tank is FULL - dumb ass! I know this is incredibly long, but believe it or not, I left out a ton of details!!! Like I said, absolute worst experience in customer service ever in my life. Pay the little extra, deal with a reputable company, save yourself the aggrevation, ESPECIALLY if your intentions are to enjoy your trip!
THIEVES!!!!. This place has THIEVES working for them, one of the employees stole my digital camera, all that needs to be said.
Poor Service, Awful and Unsafe Vehicle, and Dirty Facility. Waited 30 min for shuttle. This building facility was dirty. It looked old and decrepit. When the shuffle pulled up to the rental building my first thought was: "Oh my! You get what you pay for! This is be the last time I go with the cheapest rental place." This place smelled like mildew. The rental agent, was going through the motions. Unpersonable. Unfriendly. Didn't smile or greet. Didn't explain any insurance details or options, and didn't inform me to inspect the vehicle. He was rushed and speeding through the process like I was just another number in line. When I called with a question he was rushed and practically yelled at me, then put me on hold for a while and eventually hung up on me. The car was clean and the size of car was good for an economy/compact car, but felt unsafe. Car shook or wobbled really bad while driving on highway at higher speeds (60-70 mph). Engine was loud (regardless of OverDrive button). Felt like a tire was going to roll right off it's axle. Ding on windsheild. Drove at a high RPM. The allignment was off really bad, as it pulled heavy to the left, which made it hard to stay straight and on the road. Blinker retraction didn't work. So had to manually turn off blinker. Traction of wheels was really poor! Slid a lot while driving in the rain. Return attended looked tired and like she didn't want to be there. Like I was impositioning her. I was running late and she took her time. She wasn't friendly and blamed me for a mark on the windshield. Neither the Rental Agent or Return Attendant were friendly. The most friendly person was the return shuttle driver. He made the experience memorable. He was proactive and quick to assist. He was great with personality and eager to please. That is just sad that the shuttle guy could run circles around the children operating the rental process.
High pressure sales for insurance and gas.
Not located at airport... took 45 min coming and going just to get to the office.
Office was slow... line was long. Why? Every person in front of me was given the full court press to buy their car insurance and gas package.
I know how to shut down these pitches and my experience was manageable... but long. So unless you are a hardened traveler you will get scare tactic after scare tactic on the insurance thing.
People were upset when checking in... people were upset when returning.
YUCK.
Worst Customer Service EVER!!!. Do not under ANY circumstances rent a car from these fools. Arriving at their facility mid day on a tuesday to find a line out the door and three rental agents bullying each and every client into paying additional $$$ by threatening them with penalties of all sorts if they wouldn't pay up. It took an hour and a half to get thru the line. One agent named Justin actually told a client "if you don't like it you can just get back on the shuttle & rent from another company" after the client complained. The manager was called & he backed up the agent. This sham should not get a dime of your money! Believe me, do not EVER use this company!!!
