The Goods – Guayaveras, Playboy shirts, wall clocks featuring Bettie Page in full dominatrix splendor, kidney-bean-shaped coffee tables, square-rimmed sunglasses. This Howard Avenue furniture-clothing store puts the R-E-T-R-O in a neighborhood where every other person looks like he/she stepped out of a Gap catalog (yawn). Let's give props to the funkafied. Let's wear gasoline shirts embroidered with the name Bill. – – The Scene – Spend hours getting lost amid the racks and shelves filled with vintage goodies of all sorts. Good luck walking home without…
Cool shop, horribly rude owner/manager
by Lon123 at Citysearch
I came across the other reviews and was not surprised to see that many others have commented on the owner's attitude. It's quite unusual to rub so many customers the wrong way, but this guy has done it extremely succesfully. The first time I went in with two family members, he said "Are you planning to buy something? This isn't a museum." ...Wow... well, we were considering buying something AND certainly planned to come back in the future b/c the place sells some great stuff; however, after that comment we all decided to never shop there again. As I told a friend of mine about this unusual store experience, he said, "Oh yeah, I had a similar experience in that store TWICE before."
Well, after 2-3 years, I stopped in again recently thinking I'd give it another chance. I didn't see the guy in there at first and the woman running the register was very nice. However, as the woman was helping me, the guy (who was the same one I described above) made a rude comment toward me... I was looking for boots to wear for Halloween and I said I was hoping to find ones with a platform and higher heel. He said, "Oh, so you want to look like a hoochie?" I didn't really know how respond... Strange and completely inappropriate thing to say to a customer.
This guy really needs to completely STOP interacting with costumers, and instead needs to make a good business move and stick to inventory or something where he can stay to himself at all times. If so many customers have had a bad experience in this store b/c of the attitude and negative air in that place, and if he wants to have repeat business, he should really consider seeking professional psychological attention. It might be a good business move for an otherwise cool store that I think has the potential to do well.
- Pros: Cool vintage 70s clothes, furniture, & items; Good costumes
- Cons: Owner has an unusually bad attitude, treats customers poorly
Interesting store run by unimaginably rude people.

I can sympathize with people that probably deal with annoying teenagers frequently but they should not treat all individuals under the age of 30 as if they are awful. I personally feel a duty to give good mom and pop stores some business especially during this time with the economy being so poor. This store does not care, apparently, that the customers are an important part of the business process, they just treat them as dirt. I'm a courteous person and yet I found the lady breathing down my back saying "don't take more that two sunglasses of the stand at one time" (which I wasn't), I was taking pictures of cool items to show my friend and heard "Are you taking pictures of items that you want to purchase?! You should ask to take pictures." (after I said sorry and asked for permission she didn't answer and huffed away), then my phone rang and I was talking about how nice the store was and heard, "We have rules! No talking on cell phones!" Later I saw her on her phone texting and asked her about the double standard and she replied "It's rude to talk on the phone and the customers and I don't care about what you were saying and it really shows your age." I found that reply especially ironic seeing as to how I can't imagine you being more rude than that lady, she should like what I was saying because it was good things about her store, and if she's implying my age is automatically inferior than by her logic every ugly hag is a totally idiotic B (you can fill in the other letters for lack of a more appropriate term for her.
I put away the item that I was going to buy and quietly went to my car I will never give service to such mean people and I beg you to do the same.
- Pros: They have unique vitage furniture that's hard to come by.
- Cons: The prudes that run the shop make it unbearable to shop.
My New Favorite Store
by retrored at Citysearch
I had a surprise retro Birthday party for my husband. We had 50 guests attending. The owner made it a breeze for all of my guests to dress up 100% authentically. He gave us discounts, was very helpful, and even stayed open late. It was a huge success! My husband thought it was awesome. Thanks Squaresville!!
- Pros: Friendly Staff, Fair Prices & Hard to Find Stuff
- Cons: Usual South Tampa Limited Parking
