Editorial Review for Java & Cream – by Sara Kennedy

The Scene
Though the shop is small, it offers big taste and a good place to watch the action outside; it's fun to sit by the big windows, reveling in the chill of the coolers, and watch the world outside go by. On a hot summer's night, it's busy with kids and people meeting and old friends hanging out.

The Food
The Java & Cream ace is the Working Cow ice cream, which comes from a specialty dealer in Pinellas County: so rich, so smooth and firm, the way really cold ice cream should be. If you're not an ice cream lover but want dessert, try the fancy dishes that peek out from the glass cabinet, like peanut butter pie, Key lime pie and cappuccino cheesecake. Or you can order scones, croissants or cookies, and various coffees supplied by Joffrey's.

Insider Tips

Tea Time

Java & Cream's tea is as fresh as can be: tea leaves are kept in glass jars and loaded into bags right when you place your order. Don't let it steep for too much time, unless you like your tea strong.

Veg Out

Bring your Sunday Times and camp out for hours reading and drinking coffee, they don't mind.

This is a true gem in the Tampa Bay area. The Proprietor, Dennis Cavanaugh, serves up delicious coffees, pastries, and ice creams along with wonderful conversation and service. The outdoor patio is a fine place to people watch and enjoy the ambiance of Davis Island. A visit to this fine establishment is well worth the trip from anywhere in the bay!

Pros: Great Value, Friendly, Quality

Java and Cream is a great place to go to relax with friends, read a paper, or watch the heart of Davis Island. The service is great, the owner and operator Denis is a wonderful and charming person. It is even safe to have you kids ride down to have an ice cream. It is just overvall a wonderful place.

Pros: Great Location, Good Service, Fun Atmosphere
