Editorial Review for Royal Palace Thai Restaurant – by Jen Robbins
The Scene
A light wood interior, fish tank housing mesmerizing tropical fish, colorful tapestries, Siamese accents, and a porch that overlooks Restaurant Row. The stunning interior, fortunately, is not in keeping with the prices on the menu, which are moderate.
The Food
Fresh, crisp vegetables; rich, thick sauces bursting with flavor; perfectly-spiced meats; flavorful curries. Start off with some crispy spring rolls, and move on to Tom Yum, a sumptuous coconut soup overflowing with fresh veggies. Next, order the red curry, a spicy stew of meat, bamboo shoots, baby corn and other veggies over fluffy rice. Other excellent dishes include Pad Thaisoft rice noodles with meat, crushed peanuts, and bean sprouts in a spicy peanut sauce; the Seafood Panang, a rich stew of scampi, red snapper, scallops and calamari broiled with vegetables and smothered in a delicious coconut sauce; or any one of the glazed duck dishes. If you have room, top it off with Thai fried ice cream.

Just went her with my girlfriend on Friday, we got takeout. Portions were dilibriutly small, even the rice continer was half full!! I got chicken pad thai, and my girlfriend got sweet and sour chicken, and a small bowl of soup-36 dollars. We had to stop at a chinese resaurant on the way home to get more food!!! And to boot, the food was very bland and the vegatables were not fresh what so ever. This place the worst, and I not recommend goint there. They clearly only care about the bottom line, and not the customer. It is very hard to find good Thai in Tampa, and this place is no exception. DO NOT GO

This used to be my favorite Thai restaurant until more Thai restaurants started opening in Tampa and I realized what a bad value this particular one is. i wish the owners would read some of the reviews posted here and realize how they are perceived in the community- CHEAP! . Besides charging more for sharing, extra sauce, substituting one vegetable for another, and anything else they can think of the portions are VERY small. A glass of wine comes filled at about one third, and this is not "fine wine." Parking is difficult, also. Try one of the Thai restaurants on Gandy Blvd, or Kennedy for Thai food just as tasty, with bigger portions, lower prices and more accomodating service.
