Loved it "). Service was exceptional, clothing was beautiful, everyone at the xmas party was absolutely in love with my dress, It was a Hit, Thank you ")
Snobbery at its Finest. I have been to La France several times to browse, but only yesterday did I go there to truly shop for something I needed and was very dissapointed. They have probably a thousand Su Wong gowns at Saks prices and most of the gowns have been there for over a year! I was interested in two dresses that were on "clearance". One had been on sale since 02/07 and another since 10/07, so there is no telling how long they have even been in the store and I was also informed by a long time "sales" girl that I was lucky there was a sale section at all. Supposedly, the owner just puts things on sale when she is tired of looking at them; she must not need to really sell anything. The gowns are way over priced! Nothing with a stretch polyester lining is worth $600.00, or even $300.00 on sale, especially when there are a thousand gowns crammed on to three walls ( could barely get to them). Aside from all of the above mess, the sales girl was very abraisive and defensive when I asked about the prices, proceeding to tell me about the eccentricities of the owner like she was the great and powerful Oz. The whole thing was silly and dissapointing! If your running a retail store act like it, because I can buy a Su Wong dress somewhere else. Everything in there, while being sometimes beautiful and sometimes really worn out, is severely over priced. Its all too bad really, because I love vintage jewelry and clothes and have been in vintage stores all over the country, but I have never seen this kind of over priced stuff and snobbery.
Replicas, and overpriced vintage, but all in one location..
It is a destination location that may save you several days of thrifting, internet shopping, and boutique hunting if they have that one thing that you are looking for, but is the markup really worth the saved time?
That all depends on how much time you have on your hands, or if you know your clothing size and have an Ebay account. Almost all the fashion offered here can be gotten for a fraction of the price (sometimes hundreds of dollars less) if you know you size and have an Ebay account.
French replica fashion at high prices, a good collection of real womens' vintage, and almost no mens selection, (unless you want a Hawaiian shirt).
I did not ask if they offer tailoring, but just about anything you get from here will need it. Sizes in vintage are very different from sizes today. And therein lies the rub to all high priced vintage store boutiques; Spend hundreds of dollars on a piece of clothing that you will have to spend hundreds of dollars to have fitted to you. The same conclusion can be reached about this boutique, it may have something beautiful, but girl, it will cost you.
Outragous selection!. My boyfriend and I have been wanting to come here for a long time and we finally did. We were not disappointed. We didn't want to leave! They have everything I love to wear. I was especially excited to see the selection of vintage wedding dresses..amazing! We are planning a wedding in Italy and I found the perfect dress to wear. The prices are high but I feel it is worth it...especially for the dress.
Oh la la!. I jsut got back from La France for the first time a couple of hours ago and the clothing is very unique and original! Nobody can ever walk into La France and say they don't like anything! All of the clothing is of good quality and almost everything looks as if it's one of a kind! From flapper style dresses to kimino dresses (my faves!) La France is my new fave! (Tiny warning thoiugh: Prices are very..risky! Be sure to have a full wallet! ^_~ )
Bags and Baubles delight. This is great place to search for that hard to find gift - treasures you never knew you needed. whenever my sister visits from Chicago - she wants to stop here for some unique bag or bauble to add to her wardrobe.
Museum Quality Items with Museum Prices. When visiting Tampa, Ive been coming to window shop here for years. It is a bit too pricey but has alot of designer duds to tempt and tease. Ive seen many great 40's and 50's cocktail dresses but only find the accessories economical. It is a wonderful gallery of style which I consider more of a museum than an actual shoppe (beacause of the prices)
