Yesterday it was headquarters for Cuban revolutionaries. Today it's party central..
The Scene
Spanish, Cuban and Italian families first settled Ybor to work in its world-famous cigar factories, giving the district a multicultural flavor that perseveres to this day. In the late '90s, the old factories and warehouses that once produced cigars and cigarettes were renovated into artists' studios, boutiques, restaurants and clubs.
The Draw
Now that nightclubs and trendy restaurants have taken root, partying, not politics, keeps Ybor lively, often late into the night. Blaring bands, gargantuan sound systems and strips of neon beckon along Seventh Avenue. On weekends, the street closes to cars a la Bourbon Street. Dining and entertainment options include clubs, microbreweries, cafes and more. For a more cultural pursuit, visit the former Ferlita Bakery, now the Ybor City State Museum.
Ybor City. Ybor City is the best place to visit in Tampa Bay, if you are into the partying scene. I only wish we had one( Ybor City ) here in Houston!!
Ybor.... better then Mardi Gras!. I live in Tampa and the only night spot to go to is Ybor. There is more then just drinking. You can get about any part of your body pierced or tattooed if that is what you are into, there are fabulous resturants, lots of dancing or if you are not interested in these, just go to people watch. It is like Mardi Gras every Friday and Saturday night.
Ybor.
As a former resident of Tampa Bay I can tell you first hand that in comparision every other nightowl spot in town seems bland in contrast. Ybor city IS
party central. Check it out at Gauvaween.
Best little bad city in the south. Y'bor is a smoking little strip of whatever you want. Ya gotta hit it for one of the three city celebrations.
Ybor City Criteria. Ybor City is a beautiful place to visit during the day. At night it can be come especially dangerous especially if you are doing the bar hopping thing. While walking down the road at night you will see every type of people imaginable. Women will flash thier bodies and etc.
Little New Orleans. the architecture is worth seeing; the Columbia a must do; cigar factory museum a good thing to do too; I am not a bar/club person but if you are there is plenty to do there at night; would like to see more shops there
YBOR..what a BORE!. I'm a Tampa native & I've seen what Ybor has x-formed into. It's not a pretty sight! Dirty old streets, some college type clubs(nothing like NYC) and a few sparce restaurants here & there. Step 2 blocks away & you are directly in the ghetto! Parking is outrageous(tip:use the parking garage, much cheaper) The mayor says he's done alot to make the place nicer, & development has come & gone but the place is still scummy. It's like putting a nice tuxedo on a smelly bum(and you'll see plenty down there). Try the downtown clubs, much more posh & quaint.
Top of The Party Zone. With local bands and all types of music, and the street party effect, you can be in 1 atmosphere 1 minute and a completely differnet 1 the next.
NOT SO FREE. YBOR is a great place to party, YES. But to consider it 1 of the "best FREE Attractions" is almost like false advertisement. Almost everything in Ybor costs money, and not too low of a price. Also, it usually costs atleast $5 just to park! It is by far a FREE Attraction.
