One of the Nation's Best. As someone who spent over thirty years in the healthcare field, I was greatly impressed by the efficiency and quality of care I received at TGH recently. The staff was absolutely wonderful, from the moment I walked into the emergency room to the day I left. No less than five different physicians took part in my diagnosis and care, each as kind, competent and compassionate as the next. I feel enormous gratitude for them all, for not only making a stressful situation more bearable, but for also providing me with the confidence that comes in knowing that they’ll always be there should I need their help in the future.
If you value your life don't go here!!!!!!!!!!!. The experience I recieved in this hospital horrible. The Surgeon we saw (Dr. Alexander Rosemurgy) was unproffessional, he and and office staff were rude, condesending, and if questioned became verbally abusive. After my surgery I spent 7 hours in recovery where my wife was never given any information. Then was sent to a unit where no one checked on me unless my wife requested somone, and it still took 30 mins for them to show up. They fell behind in my pain management, and I ultimatly endind up in ICU on a vent with pnumonia, which took 7 days for them to diagnose. Ther was never a plan of care presened and when my family ask for a consult for a pulminologist we where discorraged to do so "afraid to offend Dr. Rosemurgy" was thier reponse. Oh and add to the fact he only came by 3 times, the while I was in ICU. Never spent more than a minute and really had nothing to say except when my wife expressed concern that she was losing me he reponse was " Yah you are" That's it!!! No words of comfort or hope. Unbelieve that a hospital of this magnitude has Doctors that work there and treat patient or should I say costumers and thier family this way!!!!!
Don't go. I was in this hospital for 7 days with no plan of treatment. I finally asked to be released. The nurses and support staff were very nice. The doctors only seemed to be concerned with revenue - keeping the beds full. Although it is a multi faceted hospital, not once was I referred to another facility for treatment. I got the impression that they really don't care about the patients.
Tampa General Is a Great Hospital. First off Tampa General is a great facility that seems at least to me to have state of the art equipment and a staff of medical professionals that are very caring and knowledgeable. A friend of mine recommended them to me and I have to say I was very impressed. Took my son there when he got injured playing softball and they were so great with him that he made a card for his nurse and doctor and wanted to go back and deliver by hand. So we did. Tampa General, you're okay in my book.
Great staff and they took good care of me. When I had my gall bladder removed I was very concerned about the procedure even though my friends all told me it was a simple process. I'm just naturally skittish about any kind of medical procedure. Thankfully I went to Tampa General Hospital and they took care of me the in best possible way. My doctor explained to me the whole process, practically walked me through it. On the procedure was over the nurses were extremely kind and caring and I left Tampa General feeling much better about any future surgical procedures I would have. I would higly recommended TGH to anyone in the area or in the state of Florida.
Tampa General Hospital.
I had a very good experience at Tampa General. I had my first son there in March. I was being seen at USF Health for pre-natal. I was a little late and USF did not want to schedule the induction but I decided to go in and they monitored me for a while and since I was having regular contractions they went ahead and induced. I had two lovely nurses, Monique and Avoney. Both the nurses were extremely supportive.
The doctors were very good also - I had Dr. Connery and Dr. Palmer. Even one doctor who had seen me on a previous occassion popped in just to see how I was doing, even though she wasn't attending me, because she heard I was there - that was Dr. Smith.
I had a private room for recovery and generally had a good experience. Sometimes I had to buzz twice before the nurse came and there was one nurse who was very withdrawn at first but she warmed up as the day went by. Overall a truly wonderful experience.
The worst Hospital EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!. The worst experience ever at this hospital.Almost 9 yrs ago I gave birth to my daughter in 2001.I had a c-section after waking up from my c-section I was put in the U.TC. room no one was there to help me, there was one nurse there and she sat behind a desk on the phone talking and laughing she did not care to help.I was in soooo much pain I was not given any pain medicine an hour and a half later. Finally I was taken in a room with no privacy and the nurses were very rude they had to change the sheets on the bed constantly because I could not stop bleeding almost the whole bed was covered with blood.I actually lost alot of blood because of the poor job that they did with my c-section and the fact that they left after birth inside me and one of the the nurses had to put her whole bare hand inside my vagina to pull out the after birth to make the bleeding stop which was very PAINFUL I almost bleed to death and I had to have a blood transfusion. Then I made a decision to not breastfeed and decided to give my baby the bottle. The nurse yelled at me as if she was my mother and forced me to breastfeed. It was all terrible I thank god that I am alive because this hospital almost killed me but god keeped his hands on me.I could NEVER EVER again go back to this hospital.
You don't want to be sick at this place.
I had the worst experience ever in Tampa General's ER department. I don't even want to begin to list all the incomptent employees at this place. Unfortunately, I had to be admitted and they lost the doctors orders, so I was waiting an additional 2.5 hours before someone finally attempted to help me. I don't want to be completely negative because I did see some nurses who appeared caring and competent, however, the majority were not. If you have a loved one that has to utilize this facility, please monitor what is going on. Hopefully, I will never get sick again, and if so, I will utilize a different medical facility.
Thank you
Never ever ever again.
I've told my husband, even if I'm dying I do not want to be taken to Tampa General Hospital, and I really mean it.
I will speak specifically about Floor 9, Neurology. My Mother was there and I was with her most of the time. Most of the nurses and doctors on the floor acted as if they really didn't care. There were three nurses who were very good and obviously did care, but the doctors were all callous and arrogant. They all acted as if they were gods.
Since this is a "teaching hospital" the residents would routinely take my mother off medications she had been taking for years and switch to new unproven medications. She had disastrous reactions, nearly fatal.
Since I was with her, they expected me to take care of things that were their responsibility. It wasn't that I minded, but some things I didn't know how to do. My mom couldn't walk, couldn't turn over by herself, etc etc. Once when my mother said she thought she was having another stroke, I buzzed for the nurse immediately. When she finally came, she basically told me off for "crying wolf" when she was with another patient. When I said "when can we see the doctor?" She said "not until after 4pm if you're lucky" (this was at 9:30 am when Mom thought she was having another storke).
My mom needed a doctor more than once and we were told several times they were "all in the emergency room." I understand emergencies are very important--that goes without saying. But what about your patients on the floor? I guess they're not as "exciting" especially if they're 85 and have had a stroke. Regardless, TGH needs to have more doctors on the floor at all times, even if they don't get an adrenaline rush.
My Mother had a very, very bad experience for over three weeks at Tampa General and I will always regret our decision to take her there. They may have a great reputation for their high tech surgeries, etc, but the human care is not only lacking, it is absent. They apprently don't want to pay to staff the number of medical personnel they really need at all times; so consequently the nurses and doctors who are around seem to be totally stressed out or just not there. I understand that, but that doesn't mean my mother deserved the treatment she received.
I think this may differ from unit to unit, and I certainly don't doubt there are many caring people at the hospital. But I would certainly never, ever recommend TGH to anyone, either to admit themselves or their loved ones to that hospital.
Heaven forbid if you upset your Nurse!. My mother was in a very serious accident about 12 years ago and this hospital is the one that the flew her to. She was in ICU for 6 weeks, and also in coma. After she got out of ICU they started her recovery on a different floor she didnt know who she was or where she was. Well she had to have assistance to get to the restroom and waited nearly 1 hr before she finally got a nurse to help her. About the 3rd week they said that she was extremely hositle and placed my mother in some kind of mesh body bag and left her there for several hours. I was only 12 at the time but when my father would take me to see her I was sooo upset leaving the hospital after seeing that my mother was clearly not happy at this hospital! Everytime that we would visit her she would say that the nurses were very mean if she asked for anything. I would not suggest this hospital to anyone! There are several other issues that I would like to address but I dont feel like getting into further detail. If you care for your loved one I would highly recommend in taking them somewhere other than TGH!
