Great Hotel BUT.... It's a great hotel but if any of you are looking to save some $$ then book it at referer.us/8/GoodHotelDeals They usually have some pretty good deals on there!
Worst hotel experience of my life.
We booked the room (which they called a suite) based on the pictures and description from hotels/expedia. Upon arrival, the desk staff was arrogant and condescending.
When we opened the door to the room, we new a mistake had been made. The room was a hovel. Our "suite" had a view of the roof, a broken down, lumpy bed, dirt, and dust everywhere, cracked and dented furniture, a broken window, a scratched up desk with a cheap plastic chair, and a bathroom the size of a closet.
We went down to the front desk, and Clinton told us there was nothing he could do. He had a well rehearsed list of excuses, but his main reason was that we booked via hotels/expedia and not through the vinoy directly. Clinton told us to call hotels/expedia and complain to them. Upon calling hotels/expedia, they told us to go back down and complain to Clinton. After 30 minutes of this run-around, I demanded a full refund and said we refused to stay there. Clinton refused to give us a refund, so I ended up calling my credit card company to file a despute. Make NO MISTAKE, none of this incident was a blunder or accident. The vinoy will show you great on-line photos of certain rooms, but then give you something entirely different. The staffs excuses and behavior is well rehearsed and polished. Its a plain old fashioned "bait and switch" scam! This is the single worst hotel experience we have ever had, and that includes 3rd world countries.
Dishonest staff. Watch out for the valet staff at the Renaissance Vinoy. I had one of them try to switch me from a prearranged car service to one that tipped him for the business. It was very clear what the valet had tried to do. It was not a simple error. Find a property where you don't need to worry whether the staff is there for you or for themselves!

Valet parking at the Vinoy Resort in St Petersburg! Avoid their parking services! Trust me.. I am absolutely disgusted! I parked at the Vinoy Hotel in St Petersburg FLA on 3/24/07 with the valet to meet a friend staying there. I paid the valet extra and was told he would keep my car up front in a special section. When I returned to get my car I noticed that they damaged my right rear wheel & tire! You could see the curb damage & the fresh mark from the sidewalk from when they drove it in. The manager of the hotel parking inspected it, took notes & told me someone would contact me. Needless to say, they brushed me off, noone contacted me until I left a voicemail & sent an email to the president of the company. The company never planned to take responsibility & eventhough I had photos of the damage, a witness that my vehicle wasnt damaged prior to parking they brushed me off and said it was old damage. Bottom line is they had a careless driver mistreat my car, damaged it & thought I wouldnt notice it. I offered to bring the car back & work it out and they refused. Do not ever use the valet service at the Vinoy, they may damage your 100 thousand dollar car and tell you its your fault!!!!
The entire staff was amazing, opening doors, greeting very polite. Our stay was perfect.
The golf course was in perfect condition. My wife got a great massage while I worked out
at their great facility and enjoyed the spa. Room service was perfect. We highly recommend this hotel. Cleanliness and furnishings were superb.
Elegance with the hint of a sea breeze. Does it get any better than this? So what if the price tag rivals the national debt. If you can afford it then break the piggy bank and go for it..
Setting the Stage
Located right off the beaches of St. Pete with spectacular views and an extremely elegant setting, the Vinoy could just be the perfect locale for the up and coming couple. This place has four pools, huge marble columns in the reception areas and spacious dance floors. Parking is by valet. Or prepare to walk.
You get your choice of rooms--intimate or gigantic. They can accommodate as few as 50 guests or as many as 1,000. There are also four ballrooms, including one located off site on the golf course. That, of course, is the most popular one for weddings because it has great pastoral views of the golf course and a historical monument décor. And the Vinoy's award-winning chef can make any dishes you desire, for a price that is!
In town for a wedding. I stayed here for a wedding and enjoyed my stay very much. The concierge was very helpful in providing ideas of what to do, and even found a complimentary car to take us there. The room was very nice and the bathroom was huge. I like the pool (very big) a lot. I didn't have a chance to see the workout facility.
