Editorial Review for Beer Can Beach – by Mary Lou Janson
The Scene
Within view of downtown's skyline, the passing boats, bicyclists and joggers provide constant entertainment along with the dogs that frequently frolic in the water. Nearby boat launches serve as the sole amenity at this no-frills patch of sandy shoreline, so bring all you need for a nice time until nighttime when the beach closes.
The Ammenities (or Not)
Tucked between a members-only yacht club and a small airport, the beach's lack of restrooms, showers and concessions makes lengthy stays a long shot. For food and drink, head for the commercial strip along Davis Boulevard, then drive around the idyllic neighborhoods that occupy the three man-made islands. Dredged up from the bay and named for developer D.P. Davis, this area dates back to the 1920s.
