Like a Carolina-style course, complete with rolling hills and mature trees..
The Scene
Built adjacent to Saint Leo College in east Pasco County, the 1,054-acre site is the centerpiece of a master-planned community 23 miles north of Tampa. The course is built on the same land as the original Lake Jovita course, built in 1924, but abandoned during the depression. The par-three 14th is the only restored holdover from that course.
Doing the Loop
Co-designed by PGA Tour star Tom Lehman, it opened in October 1999 to rave reviews. With more than 144 feet of natural changes in elevation (the 550-plus-yard 11th drops a startling 94 feet from tee to green) provide a striking contrast to typically flat Florida tracts. Watch out for hole No. 9 (a dogleg right par-five) and No. 18 (dogleg left par-four) both are picturesque finishing holes, wrapping around opposite sides of a large lake that makes approach shots scenic but treacherous.
