Pay homage to the Big Guava's Cuban heritage at one of it's lesser known (but no less important) parks..
The Scene
A modest park on the corner of 13th and 8th (next to New World Brewery), all you'll find here is a few benches, a mural of Cuba and an impressive statue of Cuban martyr Jose Marti. Long ago, he visited Tampa to raise money for his cause, speaking from the now hallowed iron steps of Ybor Square.
Historically Speaking
A poet, essayist, freedom fighter and patriot, Jose Marti became universally associated with Cuba's bid for independence around the turn of the century. His impassioned and eloquent pleas inspired people to pay attention to this tiny island in the Caribbean, as well as empty their wallets in support of Marti's cause.
