Editorial Review for The Lobby – by Sara Kennedy
The Scene
Located in what used to be the lobby of the historic Detroit Hotel, pretty front doors open onto a Mediterranean bistro called the Garden, which is shaded by a 100-year-old banyan tree. Custom-made iron accents and stained glass grace the interior with a most unusual style. The sculpture is a nod to the Spanish love of wrought iron, only modern; stained glass reminiscent of the work of Louis Comfort Tiffany, only cleanly 21st century; stained-glass tables with wrought-iron legs and feet; an impressive mirror hangs over a fireplace; and even the footrest that runs along the bottom of the bar is exquisite.
The Food
The premium liquors are pricey, but worth it. Indulge in hummus pita; chips accompanied by muhammara dip--a spicy concoction of roasted red peppers, walnuts, pomegranate and molasses, or try fried, almond-crusted calamari. A place to eat, drink, converse and contemplate the finer things in life.

Know Before You GoThe crowd, which tends to dress up, changes by the hour: office workers and theatergoers during early evening; 30-somethings later, and a very young crowd in their 20s during the wee hours.

Come get your 80s on! They are throwing down the best 80s mix I have heard in the bay area. They play everything, stuff I haven't heard in years. They even took some crazy requests. They played pretty much everything from darkwave to pop and rap to rock (no heavy metal but they did play some industrial) We had a blast dancing. This has definately become a required Thursday night hangout! hope to see you there...
Pros: all 80s music all night...even obscure requests
Cons: Having to go to work on Friday after dancing my butt off Thursday night! haha

The Lobby has brought in 2 DJ's that have turned Thursday nights into the best 80's dance party in the Tampa Bay area. From New Wave to Hip Hop, Goth to Pop, Rock to Funk; they welcome the challange of obscure requests! Same great Lobby atmosphere and beautiful people that you are used to seeing on Saturday nights. Best Martini's and $2.00 drink specials every week. As always there is no cover charge. Only 2 blocks away from Bay Walk on Central Ave. Don't miss it, and make sure you bring your rubiks cube & dancing shoes.
Pros: 80's Music Thursday, Perfect Martini's, Cool Intimate Atmosphere
Cons: didn't really start to get busy until 9:30 which is normal for most dance clubs
